World War II (also called Second World War, WWII, and WW2) is a major war. Captain America went through Project: Rebirth so that he could fight for his country. Secretly, the Chitauri helped Nazi Germany, headed by Adolf Hitler in Berlin, to develop a superweapon. They were led by Herr Kleiser. Their goal was to take back a vibranium deposit in the African nation of Wakanda. Kleiser was put in charge of the Totenkopf Division.
Captain America thought he killed Kleiser twice but still the alien lived.
At the end of the war in 1945, Captain America led the 101st Airborne Division across the Atlantic Ocean in B-24 Liberators to storm a castle in Norway where the superweapon was held. Among the soldiers were Bucky Barnes and Gil Kowalsky. During the battle Gil was killed. The other soldiers fought against Nazis and Chitauri. Cap and Kleiser boarded the superweapon as it launched. Kleiser was lost and Cap was believed to have been killed when the weapon went off harmlessly above the ocean. However, Cap fell into the Arctic and was frozen for sixty years when he was awaken by S.H.I.E.L.D..
