Today is the forty-fourth birthday of Taika Waititi. Born on this day in Wellington, New Zealand, the filmmaker got his start on a comedy tour across New Zealand and Australia. He started acting in a number of minor roles such as Snakeskin and The Strip before getting his start in the superhero genre as Thomas Kalmaku in the infamous Green Lantern film.
He is more well known for his directoral efforts. His short Two Cars, One Night was nominated for an Academy Award while his second feature Boy was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. He has also made What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. His biggest effort came when Marvel Studios chose him to direct Thor: Ragnarok, the third film in the series centering on the God of Thunder. He is currently set to direct the fourth film Thor: Love and Thunder.
