We have our first new casting of the sequel to the Oscar-winning film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Issa Rae has officially been cast as Jessica Drew, also known as Spider-Woman. Rae is famous for her YouTube series Awkward Black Girl, her award nominated role on the HBO series Insecure, as well as the films The Hate U Give, Little, The Photograph, and The Lovebirds. In 2018, she was included in the Time one-hundred list of most influential people in the world.

Jessica Drew was the first to take on the mantle of Spider-Woman. She stared in her own 1970s animated series but otherwise has been absent from animation. The character was a major part of the comic storyline Spider-Verse. This will mark the character's film debut.
