Last Friday, March 17th, actor Lance Reddick passed away from natural causes at the age of sixty. He is survived by his wife Stephanie Reddick, and his children Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick.
Lance Solomon Reddick was born on June 7th, 1962 in Baltimore, Maryland. As a teenager, he studied music at the Peabody Preparatory Institute and at the University of Rochester's Eastman School of Music. He eventually attended the Yale School of Drama receiving a Master of Fine Arts. In the mid-90s, he began acting with minor appearances in the sitcom The Nanny, drama series The West Wing, an uncredited appearance in the 1998 Godzilla series featuring Hank Azaria, and Law & Order as well as its spin-offs Special Victims Unit and Criminal Intent.
He gained fame playing Johnny Basil in Oz, Cedric Daniels in The Wire, Phillip Broyles in Fringe, and Deputy Chief Irvin Irving in Bosch. He is most famous for playing hotel concierge Charon in the John Wick franchise, appearing in the first four films and spin-off Ballerina, appearing along with Laurence Fishburne, Clancy Brown, and Norman Reedus. Other notable works include New York Undercover, The Nanny, Great Expectations, Godzilla with Hank Azaria, The Siege, CSI: Miami, Numb3rs, Lost, Jonah Hex with Josh Brolin, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Drone, TRON: Uprising, White House Down, Wilfred, Payday 2, Ra's al Ghul in Beware the Batman, The Blacklist, Destiny, Key and Peele, Castle, Quantum Break, Horizon Zero Dawn, The Domestics, Destiny 2, American Horror Story, Carrier, Angel Has Fallen, Castlevania, Dust, From Now, Godzilla vs. Kong with Brian Tyree Henry, Young Sheldon, Horizon Forbidden West, the podcast Batman Unburied, Resident Evil, The Vindicators, The Legend of Vox Machina, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and White Man Can't Jump. Marvel fans would recognize him as the voice of Falcon in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Reddick's representative Mia Hansen said of his passing, "Lance will be greatly missed."
His wife Stephanie said, "Lance was taken from us far too soon. Thank you for all your overwhelming love, support and beautiful stories shared on these platforms over the last day. I see your messages and can't begin to express how grateful I am to have them."
