Earl Boen has passed away. Last fall, the actor was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. He finally succumbed to the illness in Hawaii on January 5th at the age of eighty-one. He is survived by his wife Cathy, daughter Ruby, and two grandchildren Kimmy Abaricia and Kimo Harbin.
Boen was born on August 8th, 1941 in New York City. He began acting on stage in the 1950s before making his way to Hollywood. He had jobs on works including The Taming of the Shrew, The Streets of San Francisco, Hawaii Five-O, Wonder Woman, Police Woman, Lou Grant with Edward Asner, Barnaby Jones, The Jeffersons, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, 9 to 5, The Dukes of Hazzard, Soap, M*A*S*H, Barney Miller, It's a Living, Three's Company, Airplane II: The Sequel with Robert Hays, Fantasy Island, Benson, St. Elsewhere, Night Court, Family Ties, G. I. Joe, The Jetsons, Newhart, Remington Steele, Growing Pains, Punky Brewster, Who's the Boss?, ALF, Thirtysomething, Mama's Family, Dallas, Miracle Mile, Webster, and Alien Nation.
His most famous work came in 1984 when he was cast in the short but memorable role as Dr. Peter Silberman in the science fiction hit film The Terminator. Boen returned to the franchise with a significantly larger role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day but a smaller cameo role in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. He also appeared in the theme park attraction T2 3-D: Battle Across Time while archive footage was included in Terminator: Dark Fate. He appeared alongside actors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Paul Winfield, Lance Henriksen, and Robert Patrick. Following the third film, he retired from live acting and focused on voice work.
