Today is the eighty-ninth birthday of Paul Soles. The actor was born on this day in Toronto, Ontario. Fans of Christmas will likely know him best as the voice of Hermey, the misfit dentist-aspiring elf, in the holiday classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
He has had a notable role in Marvel history as being the first to play Bruce Banner, Hawkeye, Happy Hogan, and Rick Jones in The Marvel Super Heroes as well as the first to play Spider-Man in the 1967 series Spider-Man and Spider-Woman. He remains as one of five of the original cast members of The Marvel Super Heroes and Spider-Man to still be living. As a tribute to his early roles, he was given a cameo in the Marvel Studios film The Incredible Hulk as the pizza shop owner Stanley.
