Today marks the fiftieth anniversary of the opening of The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland. The theme park ride has guests journey through a haunted mansion where a murder and suicide took place while encountering the grim grinning ghosts that inhabit the building.
The ride was one of the last that Walt Disney oversaw, though it was not completed until after his death. It became one of the park's most popular attractions and remains one of the most heavily visited. It inspired identical rides in Disney's parks in Florida and Tokyo along with similar rides in Paris and Hong Kong. It also inspired a film adaptation with another in consideration.
The ride features the voice talents of Paul Frees as the narrating Ghost Host.
