Today is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the premiere of True Lies. A remake of the 1991 French film La Totale!, the film follows a secret agent whose double life becomes exposed when his family becomes entangled in his mission to stop international terrorists.

The film is notable for being the first to have a budget of over $100 million. The film was a moderate success with the critics but a smash at the box office, eventually being the third highest grossing film of the year. It was nominated for numerous awards, including an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and won several, including a Golden Globe. The film was going to spawn a sequel, but after the September 11th terrorist attacks the plans were shelved. It did spawn a video game and there are plans for a television continuation.

The film features the talents of Arnold Schwarzenegger as secret agent Harry Tasker and Eliza Dushku as Harry's daughter Dana.
