Today is the twenty-fifth anniversary of the premiere of Die Hard with a Vengeance. The third film in the series, the story follows NYPD Detective John McClane as he must stop the brother of the first film's villain from setting off massive bombs across the city.

The film began life as a separate project called Simon Says that was eventually adapted into the Die Hard series. The producers had a number of problem, most notably the ending which was shot multiple times due to poor audience testing.

The film received mixed reviews from critics who felt it failed to live up to the high standard of the original. It was well received by audiences and was the highest grossing film of the year. Despite the success, a sequel wasn't made for another twelve years. Appreciation for the film has increased in hindsight, particularly after the following two sequels were released, and has been called one of the greatest sequels ever made.

The film features the talents of Samuel L. Jackson as good samaritan Zeus Carver, beating out Laurence Fishburne for the role, as well as Andre Ware as a gang member.
