Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the premiere of Save the Last Dance. The film follows an interracial couple, Sara and Derek, who train for a dance audition.
The film received mixed reviews from critics. It was a moderate box office success, being the thirty-seventh highest grossing film of the year. It won several awards including MTV Movie Awards, Teen Choice Awards, and Young Hollywood Awards while being nominated for several Black Reel Awards and Golden Reel Awards. It was followed by a direct-to-video sequel.
The film features the talents of Kerry Washington as Sara's friend Chenille Reynolds.
