Today marks the tenth anniversary of the premiere of Watchmen. Based on the highly acclaimed graphic novel by DC Comics, the film follows a group of superheroes in an alternate 1985 as they investigate the murder of one of their own that forces them to challenge their moral limitations.
The film had a long, troubled development into production with numerous filmmakers joining and leaving, with David Hayter at one point writing a script. It was a moderate box office success, performing below expectations. The film polarized fans and critics. Some praised the director's style while others criticized it for lacking what made the comic so beloved. A director's cut of the film, which incorporated removed scenes and a deleted subplot of a comic within the story, was better received.
The film features the talents of Matt Frewer as aging supervillain Moloch.
