There have been two known attempts to make a Thor animated series, neither of which came to fruition.

Little is known about the first attempt. Jack Kirby made a presentation piece of artwork that was inked by Alfredo Alcala. Ruby-Spears Productions, most known for Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, was going to produce.

Unfinished concept art

The unfinished artwork shows what is most likely the Midgard Serpent attacking an Asian city. There are two hand-written notes. The first says "Do not color sky". The other "Get Jack to put Thor in" and points a circle in the eyeline of the creature.[1]

The second was a proposed series by Marvel Animation.[2]

The series would "follow Thor as he defends his mythical home of Asgard against fantastical villains, fiendish hordes, winged creatures and angry giants. The show takes place in various wondrous worlds: from mountainous landscapes to places of icy mists and fiery voids. Thor will be surrounded by many companions on his mission, every one sure to add to the action and adventure of this series."

It was announced that there were twenty-six half-hour episodes planned.

In 2008, the series was initially planned to launch in Fall of 2010 to follow the live action Thor film, which was delayed until 2011. The idea being that each live action Marvel Comics film would be released along with an animated series to continue awareness in the marketplace for new franchises, according to President of Animation Eric Rollman. "Through animation we can openly explore and tell the rich stories which are unique to the worlds of Thor."[3][4]

A combination of the 616 and Ultimate Thor designs

Jonboy Meyers developed concept art of Thor and Loki, which resemble the versions of Thor and Loki on The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. [5]

However, since its announcement little has been heard regarding the series. It is unknown whether the series was abandoned or whether, like the proposed series Hulk: Gamma Corps, the concept and ideas were folded into the more inclusive series The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
