Biography[]

Early life[]

Meeting the Ravagers[]

In 1988, T'Chaka was a young boy living in Wakanda. T'Challa was prince of Wakanda and was the son of King T'Chaka. T'Challa wanted to explore the world beyond Wakanda. However, T'Chaka would not allow it because he knew how dangerous the world could be.

Later that night while playing in a field outside Wakanda, T'Challa threw a spear which accidentally went through the force field that camouflaged the city. Moments later T'Challa was abducted by the Ravagers and taken aboard their M-Ship. When T'Challa met Yondu, the leader of the Ravagers, Yondu asked him what he was doing all alone in the field. T'Challa answered that he was exploring the world. Yondu then asked T'Challa if he wanted to explore that entire universe with him and the Ravagers. Excited at this idea, T'Challa agreed. A few years later Yondu tried to return T'Challa to Earth. However, Yondu told T'Challa that Wakanda had been destroyed during a war.

Ravager[]

Legendary Star-Lord[]

Twenty years later T'Challa taught the Ravagers to change their ways and helped become something more than just space pirates. T'Challa convinced the Ravagers to help others, and they used their skills to steal to help those less fortunate. This led to the Ravagers becoming adored icons throughout the galaxy. During this time T'Challa became known as Star-Lord.

When Thanos tried to destroy half of all life in the universe, he was confronted by T'Challa. However, T'Challa convinced Thanos that there was a better way to save the universe. Thanos rethought his mission and ended up reforming. Thanos then joined the Ravagers.

Other missions that Star-Lord went on with the Ravagers included stopping a bank heist committed by Skrulls on Tarnax IV, arming the Ankaran resistance, and saving the planet Kylos from Ronan the Accuser.

Stealing the Orb[]

T'Challa as Star-Lord with helmet (Cinematic Universe)

T'Challa discovered the Orb on Morag and arrived there with the Ravagers. Upon entering the Temple Vault, Star-Lord quickly located the Orb and took it. However, Star-Lord was confronted by Korath and two other men who had been sent by Ronan to obtain the Orb. However, as soon as Korath realized that he was Star-Lord, he told T'Challa that he was a big fan of his work.

Despite being a big fan of Star-Lord's Korath told T'Challa that he still had to take the Orb. Star-Lord disarmed Korath and the two began to fist fight. Korath was such a big fan that he asked Star-Lord if he wanted him to hold back. However, Star-Lord answered not to. Korath tried to punch Star-Lord. However, Star-Lord was able to dodge all of his attacks. Star-Lord tricked Korath into punching a force field which electrocuted Korath and caused him to pass out. Star-Lord also managed to knock out Korath's men. Star-Lord was about to leave the temple but stopped and looked at Korath. Star-Lord picked Korath up and brought him outside headed toward his ship.

Upon exiting the temple, Star-Lord was surrounded by more of Korath's gunmen. However, Yondu used his Yaka Arrow to take out all the gunmen. T'Chall handed the Orb to Yondu and they boarded their ship with Korath.

Theft of the Embers of Genesis[]

While the Ravagers were at a night club on Contraxia, they were approached by Thanos's daughter Nebula. Nebula told the Ravagers that the Collector had come into possession of ancient cosmic dust called the Embers of Genesis. Just one ounce of the Embers of Genesis would heal a dying planet by repairing the planet's ecosystem. T'Challa realized that with the massive amount of the Embers of Genesis that the Collector had they could feed billions of people on millions of worlds. However, Yondu was against going on this mission because he knew how dangerous the Collector was. However, T'Challa was able to convince Yondu to let the Ravagers go on this mission.

When the Ravagers got to Knowhere, which was where the Collector and his museum were located, Yondu and Nebula posed as sellers looking to sell the Orb to the Collector. Nebula and Yondu brought a box into the Collector's museum which they said held the Orb. However, Star-Lord was really inside.

Star-Lord got out of the box and began to look for the Embers of Genesis. This led him to a room filled with alien space crafts. When Star-Lord got near one of the ships his Wakandan necklace began to glow. Upon entering the ship a video recording of T'Chaka began to play. In the video T'Chaka says that T'Challa was abducted from Wakanda and if anyone knows about his whereabouts to contact him. It was at this moment that T'Challa learned that Wakanda was not destroyed like Yondu had told him. However, as Star-Lord turned around he saw Nebula pointing a gun at him and the Collector holding Yondu hostage. Nebula told Star-Lord that she had a debt with the Collector and that delivering him to the Collector was her payment.

T'Challa and Yondu were then thrown into a cell. There T'Challa confronted Yondu about lying to him about Wakanda being destroyed. However, Yondu told T'Challa that he was protecting him. Seconds later Corvus Glaive came into the cell, knocked Star-Lord out, and delivered him to the Collector. Collector ordered his men to dissect T'Challa and display his body in his museum. When T'Challa tried to escape he was stopped by Ebony Maw. However, Carina, the Collector's slave, shot Ebony Maw in the back.

While trying to escape, T'Challa was confronted by the Collector. When Collector got the upper hand Yondu arrived and helped Star-Lord fight him. Together, Star-Lord and Yondu were able to defeat the Collector. Upon escaping Knowhere, Yondu tried to apologize to T'Challa for lying to him. However, T'Challa wasn't angry anymore and told Yondu that he wanted to explore the galaxy.

Return to Wakanda[]

Sometime later, T'Challa and the Ravagers returned to Wakanda where they were greeted by the royal family.

Background[]

T'Challa is voiced by Chadwick Boseman who reprised his role from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, this was the first time that Boseman played Star-Lord instead of Black Panther. T'Challa as a child was voiced by Maddix Robinson.

This was one of Chadwick Boseman's final roles in the MCU before his death.

Director Bryan Andrews revealed that Chadwick Boseman's Star-Lord was planned to have his own spin-off show before the actor's death. In a interview Andrews said "I don't know if he knew this, but there was planning to have Star-Lord T'Challa spin off into his own show with that universe and crew," he continued, "We were all very excited. We know he would have loved that, too. And then, he passed, and so all that's in limbo. So, who knows? Maybe one day."[1]
