Spider-Man is an animated series that began airing August 19th, 2017. It is the ninth series to focus on the character of Spider-Man after Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Spider-Man, Spider-Man Unlimited, Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, The Spectacular Spider-Man, and Ultimate Spider-Man.
The series was made to coincide with the Marvel Studios theatrical film Spider-Man: Homecoming. It is the second series, after The Spectacular Spider-Man, to follow Peter Parker through his time in high school.
This series is set in the same universe as Guardians of the Galaxy and the fifth season of Avengers Assemble.
The series was renewed for a second season in early 2018 which premiered on June 18, 2018. The show was retitled Marvel's Spider-Man: Maximum Venom for its third season, which was announced on May 30, 2019 and premiered on April 19, 2020.
Story[]
A gifted teenager named Peter Parker is given spider-like powers when he is bitten by a radioactive spider during a school field trip to OsCorp. After the death of his Uncle Ben at the hands of a burglar, Parker comes to his own terms of becoming a masked superhero named Spider-Man, learning to balance his crime-fighting career with his new enrollment at Horizon High, a school for students with genius-level intellect.
Background[]
Marvel announced that Ultimate Spider-Man would come to an end and be replaced with a new series titled Spider-Man. It will focus on the early days of Peter Parker starting off as Spider-Man, pulling a lot from Dan Slott's run on the comics. Kevin Shinick, of Robot Chicken fame, will be the story lead.[1]
Merchandising for the series revealed that it will feature Peter Parker as Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy as Ghost-Spider, Miles Morales as Spy-D, and some version of Venom.[2]
Continuity[]
This series is set in the same universe as the Guardians of the Galaxy and just the fifth season of Avengers Assemble. This caused confusion as the rest of Avengers Assemble is in the same continuity as Ultimate Spider-Man.
- In Back in the New York Groove episode of Guardians of the Galaxy, the cast and designs of Spider-Man reprise their roles. Spider-Man teamed up with Guardians of the Galaxy to fight against the Thanos.
- In Avengers: Black Panther's Quest episode "Vibranium Curtain, Part Two", Spider-Man tried to catch Black Panther as per the order of Tony Stark. Later Spider-Man realized that Black Panther is not traitor and helped him to catch Ulysses Klaue. Kraven the Hunter and Vulture are characters from Spider-Man appeared in the show along with Spider-Man.
- In "School of Hard Knocks", Avengers from Avengers: Black Panther's Quest reprise their roles. Kamala Khan was sent on a secret mission given by Iron Man. Later she teamed up with Spider-Man to rescue the Avengers from A.I.M.
- In Spider-Man episode "Amazing Friends", Groot and Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy reprise their roles. Star Lord wanted to send an important message to Spider-Man. So, he sent Groot to earth to give that message to Spider-Man.
- It was originally believed that Guardians of the Galaxy was set in the same universe as Ultimate Spider-Man. However, it was later confirmed that the entire Guardians of the Galaxy series and Black Panther's Quest is set in the same universe as this series[3][4][5]
Comics[]
Spider-Geddon: Spider-Man is a motion comic tie-in to the 2018 comic book event called Spider-Geddon. It features the Spider-Man from this series being recruited to fight against a threat to every Spider-Man and Spider-Woman in the Multiverse.
Spider-Man may live in an animated world, but his headaches are about to get very real when someone’s attacking the wax museum!
While investigating a Wax museum, Spider-Man finds himself being attacked by Wax figures of the Avengers and famous people from the past and present. It's revealed that this is the work of Mysterio, and after defeating him Spider-Man is recruited by Spider-Punk to help other Spider-Men save the multiverse.
This event happened sometime in-between the events of the Bring on The Bad Guys Saga and before Brain Drain due to the appearance of Mysterio.
