History[]
Formation[]
Spider-Man first met Iceman and Firestar when they teamed up to stop Beetle from stealing Tony Stark's crime detection computer. Spider-Man suggested they they team up more often. However, Iceman and Firestar refused.
Unknown to Peter, Firestar and Iceman were attending Empire State University in their civilian guises of Angelica Jones and Bobby Drake. Peter developed a crush on Angelica which made Bobby jealous. The three heroes met a second time when they worked together to put out a fire in the chemistry lab at ESU.
Peter eventually deduced that Iceman and Firestar were really Bobby Drake and Angelica Jones. Later, Spider-Man approached Angelica and Bobby and told them that he knew they were Firestar and Iceman. Spider-Man also revealed to the two of them that he was Peter Parker. The three of them agreed to form a team. Firestar suggested that they call themselves the Spider-Friends because Spider-Man had the most experience at being a superhero. Bobby and Angelica then moved into May Parker's home because she was renting out a room to make some extra money.
Beetle returned and kidnapped Tony Stark. However, Stark was rescued by the Spider-Friends. As thanks for saving his life, Tony gave the Spider-Friends a variety of high-tech computers that they would use to fight crime. The computers were installed in May's house in secret compartments so May wouldn't find them.
Sometime later Beetle attacked the main headquarters of Stark International and attempted to destroy it. However, Beetle was finally stopped by the Spider-Friends and turned over to the police.
Deadpool[]
When Peter went on vacation, Deadpool rented Peter's room from May. However, neither Iceman or Firestar liked Deadpool because he was a rude slob.
After Spider-Man's disappearance the Sinister Six went on a crime spree in New York City. When Deadpool, Firestar and Iceman learned that the Sinister Six was robbing the federal reserve they went to stop them.
When the Spider-Friends arrived at the Federal Reserve, Deadpool told Iceman and Firestar that the Sinister Six murdered Spider-Man. In their blind rage Firestar and Iceman killed the members of the Sinister Six. However, soon afterwards Spider-Man arrived and told Firestar and Iceman that Deadpool captured him and buried him alive. Firestar and Iceman were furious at Deadpool and burnt and froze him. However, Deadpool was able to survive because of his healing factor.[1]
Background[]
The team was original to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
According to Dennis Marks in the Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends documentary Spider-Man On The Move, Human Torch was originally going to be a member of the Spider-Friends. However, Marks and the staff at Marvel Productions believed that if kids saw Human Torch they would think it would have been okay for them to play with fire. Because of this Human Torch was replaced with an original character called Firestar.[2]
The Spider-Friends were featured in the Marvel Mash-Up shorts that aired on Disney XD.
