The Sinister Six were a small league of villains formed by Doctor Octopus to fight against Spider-Man.
History
Background
Each member of the six once fought against Spider-Man and was defeated. All of them were imprisoned in New York State Prison, where each stayed for a series of times. All of them held a grudge against the wall-crawler.Doctor Octopus and Electro eventually concocted an escape plan to lead them and select other villains out of the prison. ("Group Therapy")
Formation
Electro succeeded in turning off securities for the cells of Sandman, Rhino, Vulture, and Doc himself. They all therefore escaped, Ock leading the villains out of the prison, and telling them of his plans to defeat the web-head by gathering his enemies and pitting them all against him together. They all agreed.

Spider-Man had recently gained a symbiote that attached itself to his suit and granted him enhanced abilities. The Six separately attacked him in time square, while robbing a bank, Doc Ock watching from the sidelines. Spider-Man's powerful abilities were overpowering of every one of the Six's attacks, even the strength of Rhino and speed of Vulture. They continued to fight, as Doc waited for the Spider to wear out.
Eventually, the five were defeated, Doctor Octopus charging after the Spider. Noticing the suit, the Doctor noted his interest in examining it once he had killed him. But the Spider easily knocks him out, defeating the last of the Six. All of the Six are arrested, the team dissolved. ("Group Therapy")
Members
The Six celebrate at a "classy restaurant."
- Doctor Octopus: The de facto leader of the Six who started the group. He bears mechanical "arms" that are at his will.
- Sandman: A former common criminal who has the enhanced abilities to turn his body into pure sand.
- Rhino: As well a former common criminal, who has amazing brute strength and an impenetrable armor-like suit.
- Vulture: An elderly former-scientist who has wings that allow him to have several aerobatics abilities.
- Shocker: A former bounty hunter with electric song wave pulsars.
- Electro: An assistant to Dr. Connors who turned rogue after an electrical incident endowed him with surges of shocks.
