Shadowcat is from the Non MAU series X-Men: Evolution.

Katherine "Kitty" Pryde, also known by the codename Shadowcat, is a mutant and part of the X-Men. She was one of the original students recruited to the team. After the New Mutants were formed, Kitty served as a instructor for them, alongside the other original students. She formed a relationship with Avalanche, who she broke up and rekindled with on numerous occasions. She developed deep friendships with Jean Grey, Rogue, Nightcrawler and Cyclops, the latter she initially expressed romantic interest in. She also had a father-daughter relationship with Wolverine, who she saved and had been saved by on occasion.

She served as the leader of the X-Men sent to fight against Magneto while he was controlled by Apocalypse, operating against his will as a member of the Horsemen of Apocalypse. During the battle, she was knocked out by Magneto with the use of his controlled-Sentinel and rescued by the Brotherhood of Mutants, a group of mutants that Kitty had been enemies with ever since joining the X-Men. She reaffirmed her relationship with Avalanche for the final time after Apocalypse was defeated and in a vision Charles Xavier had of his X-Men in the future, she was still a member of the team as a adult.

Biography

Early Life

Little is known about Kitty before she discovered her mutant powers. She was a good child who got along well with her parents. However, at school she was considered nerdy and picked on by other girls. The most prominent of these girls was Riley, who had become aware that Kitty was getting high grades and often tried to make fun of it with a friend of hers. She began to pick on Kitty at school sometime after this discovery and was not seen by any of the teachers.

Kitty in her dream XME

Kitty discovers her powers.

The young lady developed her powers over the course of a dream, where she was flying and without control. She had in actuality phased through her bedroom, which terrified her as she was given comfort by her parents. Her father, chose to not talk of the ability that she had recently gained while her mother danced around the issue with elegance and grace. With a attempt to sneak out of the house failing once she was caught by her mother, Pryde justified leaving the house because the issue was not being handled at her home, as her father continued to not discuss it. With her mom allowing her to leave, Kitty arrived at school and was quickly bullied by two other girls, the ringleader of the two being Riley.

Despite being pushed inside with the two not having any intentions of letting her out, she was lucky enough to accidentally activate her powers and escape. Unfortunately, she knocked into Lance Alvers, who became aware of her abilities from the get go and tried to show her his. Kitty did not respond favorably and ran off, leaving Lance with the proclamation that he would meet her again. She was chosen as the first one during a physical education exercise, since she was late thanks to Riley. Once she tripped, Lance used his powers to mess up Riley while she tried to go after her. Kitty ran hopelessly and met Jean Grey by bumping into her as well. Kitty was surprised to see the X-Man when she came after her, who she expected to be a friend of Riley. Jean assured her that she was not and tried to show her the powers that she had used, which troubled Kitty and caused her to run off, prior to Lance warning Jean not to get involved with her. Kitty was approached by Lance later on, who told her to meet him sometime afterwards so that he could show her how to use her powers.

Kitty believed him and came to the scene of their meeting, where he told her that they would need to accept that with being mutants came meaning that something was wrong with them. His manipulation over her caused Kitty to phase him and her through a room where test results were readily available for the two, which Kitty was unaware of entirely while Lance had been bidding his time to have her do it. Though Lance congratulated her on the powers and display of control she had used, it became obvious to her that he had used her to get inside and get the results. Lance put his hand on her angrily once she discovered his plans and at the moment her parents arrived with Jean, the latter having met up with them earlier. Jean reminded Kitty of when she said that she did not want her powers to be a curse and guaranteed that they would be once she was with him. She escaped his clutches with her powers and was seemingly taken down or otherwise harmed by a avalanche he had created and used around her.

Kitty saves Jean and her parents XME

The grief her parents displayed could best be described as the love only a parent could have for their child, before Kitty revealed herself to be perfectly fine. She had Jean and her parents grab on to her, whom she had planned to have come with her as she phased and saved herself. This plan worked and the four were saved, regrouping with Charles Xavier as well. Kitty's parents were enthralled with the Xavier Institute, though not to the level that Kitty was. The latter gladly told her parents that the two wanted to help her and that she trusted them. After her parents conversed with Charles, she joined the X-Men.

Rogue

Since joining the X-Men, she had difficulty fitting in with the others. She was inexperienced, especially when compared to the rest of the team. Following a training session between Wolverine and Storm, Kitty tried to figure out if any of the other members of the group were freaked out by what they had seen. With everyone staring at her bizarrely, Kitty deduced that it was just her as Nightcrawler tried to comfort her, who told her that she was amongst friends. All this reassured Kitty was that she should drop out, which she did literally as she phased to the floor and removed herself from the Danger Room. Charles Xavier approached the X-Men and told them that he had detected a mutant, one which could absorb the powers of others. Her name was Rogue, a girl that Kitty and the rest of the team went to recruit. While aboard the Blackbird, Kitty was impressed by Cyclops, specifically after Charles Xavier complimented his planning ahead for the X-Men. She referred to him as cute, which Jean dismissed before beginning to change her mind about him.

A jealous Nightcrawler took use of his powers and teleported to the top of the Blackbird, in a attempt to show himself as cool to Shadowcat. Losing his grip, he crashed into her and was scolded by Charles as she pushed him off. Though Kurt apologized to her, Kitty told him to just leave her alone as she walked away and went to the front, putting herself next to Scott. Arriving at the hospital that Cody, the boy Rogue had touched and harmed by accident, was inside off, Kitty watched as Charles used his powers to try and get inside of Cody's mind. This proved to be of little success, which caused Kitty, Nightcrawler and Wolverine to be forced to look for him. Wolverine explained to a complaining Kitty that Rogue's mind was scattered and that Charles could not pin point it. The three soon spotted Rogue, and took off after her.

File:Kitty tackles Rogue.png

They were not aware that Mystique had actually beaten them to the punch, having morphed into Wolverine and Storm while going after her. Kurt suggested to Wolverine that he go in with Kitty to comfort her and was allowed, told to keep a eye on Kitty as well. The aforementioned statement by Wolverine irritated Kitty, and caused her to unintentionally tackle her, under the impression that Rogue had actually needed to be restrained. She easily pushed her off with the strength that she had absorbed from Cody, and absorbed Nightcrawler when he tried to intervene. Kitty called out for Kurt as he laid unconscious, realizing soon that he was knocked out. She pieced together how to contact Charles and accidentally called him to loud, explaining what had happened to him after being told to quiet down by Charles as she conversed with him telepathically.

While looming over her fallen comrade, Kitty began to express that she was warming up to his physical appearance and clang desperately to hope that he would survive. Rogue absorbed the powers of Storm after making contact with her and was taken out by Cyclops and Jean. Kitty, Wolverine, Charles and the still-passed out Nightcrawler joined them after she disappeared and exclaimed that the X-Men would have to go after Mystique upon learning that she was responsible for their inconvenience in recruiting her. Charles dismissed her wishes and explained that tending to their allies was essential as Nightcrawler came to his senses. With Nightcrawler coming back, Kitty expressed a new level of fondness in him and clang to his arm as she stated that everything was going to be just fine.

Blob

Fred Dukes was nearly recruited by the X-Men, before having his fate sealed by Mystique and transferring to Bayville High School in the process. He nearly got into a fight with Duncan Matthews, before Jean intervened and introduced herself to him. Being told of the event at lunch, Kitty tried to figure out if the passing by Fred was the one who had ripped the locker off of the wall. Jean told her that he was fine, and alluded to him having been the one that ripped the locker off of the wall earlier. Having heard of the event, she realized that he was the one who had committed the offence and classified it as freaky. Blob soon came into conflict with Duncan again when he accidentally caused his food to hit him and the other jocks. Though warned by Jean to stay behind under the pretense that a confrontation could get messy, she sarcastically pointed out that it had happened.

During the food fight, Kitty was hit in the face with some food while in the crossfire, and withdrew from the game afterwards. Jean calmed Blob down, and later was asked out on a date by him. Though she nicely declined his request due to having some commitments, Fred grabbed her and insisted that she would have to go out with him. Once Jean used her powers and caused a number of appliances to hit him, she was harmed and knocked out by the results of her powers, and taken to a secluded location by Blob in the process. Jean contacted Charles from that point on, who received her message as Kitty and Nightcrawler were being trained by Wolverine. Kitty started off with having a football in her possession and not allowing Kurt to have it, but reversed events once she accidentally slammed into a tree.

Kitty relates that the X-Men owe Rogue.

With Nightcrawler mocking her, Kitty lunged at him and grabbed the football while holding onto his tail as well. With Charles getting the message from Jean, Kitty and Nightcrawler went together to her location with the intent of saving her. However, they discovered that Rogue had already beaten them to the punch and had saved her herself, defeating Blob as well. Though Jean merely asked her why she had helped them, Rogue related that she was unsure as she rushed away from the group. Despite believing Rogue to be affiliated with their enemies, Shadowcat acknowledged that the X-Men owed her.

Spyke joins

Evan Daniels, the nephew of Storm, had his mutant powers seen by his aunt. Though she did not initially plan to enroll him into the X-Men, that changed once he accidentally used his powers while with her in a locker room. After he joined the group following being framed by his rival for being involved with the damaging of some lockers in his class, Kitty expressed some interest in meeting him. Charles explained why he was not present and was overheard by him on his discussion on whether or not he would tell him who damaged the lockers. Evan continued to train as a member of the group, up until Shadowcat intercepted his training, informing him that their Principal Darkholme had scheduled a last minute game with the coach. Evan went back to the school and alongside Cyclops and Jean, teamed up and defeated Quicksilver. The X-Men soon had a relaxing time in their pool, where Kitty complained to Charles that Nightcrawler was getting his fur in the pool. Once Evan dived in, he caused her some disruption, which angered Kitty.

Saving Nightcrawler

Kitty joined the rest of the X-Men at school in having a discussion, regarding going to Duncan Matthews's party. Though Scott tried to classify Duncan as a jerk, Kitty defended him and expressed interest in going before learning from Scott that freshman were not allowed, which prompted her to agree with Scott. Once the group shifted tones on their mutant heritage, Kitty departed from the rest of the team. A argument broke out between Scott and Kurt, the latter being criticized as goofing around too much. Kurt became angry and teleported away, landing in a room in the depths of the school that introduced him to Forge via a television. Once Rogue came in there with him, the two got into a squabble, which resulted in Kurt being seemingly vaporized. In the alternate dimension that he entered, Kurt saw Kitty and Evan talking. Kitty agreed that Scott could be overbearing, but also supported him in the idea that Kurt needed to stop playing around.

Rogue tried to take the device and dump it, though only served to interest Toad in the device, the latter using it to get even with Darkholme after she threatened him. Once Scott and Jean saw him use the device, they made the connection that it had something to do with Kurt's disappearance and confronted him about it, Shadowcat and Spyke in tow. During the confrontation, Toad tried to blast Shadowcat, who used her own powers to dodge the beam as Jean instructed her to get down. Once the X-Men caught Toad, he proclaimed his innocence as Rogue approached the team. Rogue revealed her involvement and threatened the X-Men to leave Toad alone if they wanted to see Nightcrawler again. Shadowcat and the rest of the squad went with her to the location she had zapped Nightcrawler, where she and Spyke did a diagnostic check on the device and learned what it was really capable of, informing Cyclops and Jean as well.

Shadowcat tries to reason with Cyclops and Spyke.

Cyclops believed that the best thing to do was blast the device, instructing the rest of the team to stand back. However, Shadowcat interved and reminded him of her powers, the possibility that she could use her powers to quietly shot circuit it out. Once Cyclops and Spyke looked at her bizarrely, Shadowcat expressed feministic tendancies towards men, pondering why men were interested in explosions. Once the five were spotted by Nightcrawler and Forge, the former was given a device to teleport himself for a mere second and tell the group to not destroy the device. Once he teleported in front of them, he ran out of time and only vaguely conveyed his message. Nightcrawler's message was interpreted as being a indication that he wanted the device to be destroyed, as Cyclops and Spyke initially believed. Shadowcat stressed in the midst of their thoughts that the boys were obsessed.

The team pieced together what he really meant and were able to successfully start the portal for him to enter through. However, Kurt and Forge needed more power to get to their dimension and went to find it as the Brotherhood of Mutants approached them. During the battle between the two teams, Shadowcat was confronted by Avalanche, the latter using his powers to cause her to fall through a wall. Though worrying Cyclops, she returned the next moment and mocked Avalanche's powers. As the Brotherhood began to get more serious, Nightcrawler and Forge arrived and slammed into Blob, ending the fight between the two factions. Once in the car, Kitty joked around with the others and was told by Jean that despite being a freshman, they would find a way to get her into the party.

Rogue joins the X-Men

Sometime after saving Nightcrawler, she joined the team in a training exercise, where she contributed by taking out a guard. Once Cyclops and Nightcrawler moved into save a hostage, the latter was revealed to be a simulation of Rogue, who caused Cyclops to stop their training while he stressed his belief that they should not be fighting against someone they were trying to recruit. Word of this simulation got to Principal Darkholme, who informed Rogue of their training and tried to kill Cyclops as well, though instead had her powers absorbed by Rogue. The latter learned that she was the one who attacked her the night the X-Men went to recruit her and stood by Cyclops's side when she continued to pursue them, before Charles, Wolverine and Storm arrived to save them. Once the X-Men returned to their home, Kitty and the others learned that Principal Darkholme was really Mystique, which irritated them and caused the team to express their own frustrations towards being kept in the dark. Additionally, she treated Rogue like a equal and expressed that she was part of their family now.

Meeting Sabretooth

After Rogue joined the X-Men, Shadowcat began to clash with her, beginning with a accusation that she had stolen a novel of hers. Though Rogue defend herself, Kitty proposed that she was lying. With Rogue explaining how she had obtained the book, Kitty continued to not believe her until bumping into Jason Frasier. Despite the latter not having any problem picking up her books for her, she doubted herself as she flirted with him and that she would really need to watch where she was going. Once their one-sided flirting went underway, Rogue mocked her, which caused Kitty to look at her angrily as she gazed into nowhere. Upon learning that Jason was Dracula in a play about the character, she was asked by Jason if she would try out, the latter telling her that they needed girls who could dance. In response, she stated that she would and as Jason left, she began a dialogue with Rogue.

With the latter mocking her once again, Kitty pointed out that she had a chance of getting picked and expressed a level of superiority to her. Once Rogue spotted Evan recording them and called him out, Kitty gazed helplessly into the sky, knowing that Rogue would do something to Evan. The latter came up to the two and tried to garner if they were going to audition for the play, Kitty confirmed that she would as Rogue did as well, fueling a rivalry between the two. Once returning to the Xavier Mansion, Evan was caught trying to record Wolverine and Cyclops during their training. Sabretooth arrived at the Xavier Mansion, having tracked them down with the use of Spyke's camera. Shadowcat and the rest of the X-Men moved in to assist the three and later found herself at odds with Rogue, who was mad over what she believed to be Kitty hogging the disc with the music on it.

Kitty justified her excessive use of the disc due to the fact that she had purchased it and told her to get her own. Evan intervened and tried to get them to help him with his film project, which she and Rogue played into. Once the three left the Xavier Mansion, Sabretooth viewed them and followed the group. During their attempts at taking footage, Kitty and Rogue both testified at making physical contact with each other, but eventually gave in so that Rogue could rip off her style of dancing. Though Kitty told her that she would need to not knock her out with the touch, both felt bizarre afterwards and soon were attacked by Sabretooth. The latter attacked the three and was able to easily defeat Rogue and Spyke, before Kitty was his target. Despite phasing through him, she was taken down as well when the latter attacked her with his abilities and knocked her across a tree.

Wolverine arrived to aid the group and despite having difficulties, succeeded in defeating him once Rogue absorbed his powers. Wolverine grounded the three and told Kitty to not give him the puppy dog eyes that she used on him. Once Sabretooth was dumped off to Antarctica, Kitty joined the rest of the group in viewing the footage that Evan had taken of her and Rogue, as well as the other members of the group.

Juggernaut

Kitty and the other X-Men were forced to partake in some part of survival training, given the option of either doing it with Wolverine or a survival training camp. She and the rest of the team chose the camp, where they all expressed annoyance in even being there. She participated in training with the rest of the group and was annoyed by the fact that Scott was going against what the X-Men were supposed to do, which was not use their powers during their time there. Charles Xavier noticed that Juggernaut had gotten out of his cell as the villain approached the Xavier Mansion, with Mystique right behind him. Once he arrived, he easily defeated Wolverine and made his way towards Charles, also turning on Mystique in the process. Storm came to the camp and informed both the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants of what had happened. Once the two groups teamed up, they confronted Juggernaut as a whole. During the battle, Shadowcat and Rogue removed two locks on his helmet and after the rest of the groups were able to knock it off, Charles entered his mind and easily defeated him telepathically.

Once the X-Men were on the verge of ending their school year at Bayville High School, Kitty went to sleep with her roommate Rogue, who had dreams of a little blue baby being chased by a man. Kitty comforted her after she woke up and upon the rest of the team intercepting her shrieks, Kitty informed them that Rogue had woke her up during her time spent sleeping. After Charles resolved to meet with Rogue, Nightcrawler and Jean, Kitty went back to bed with Scott and Evan under his directions. Once the X-Men learned that her dreams were the suppressed memories of Mystique, Charles tried to confront her. Nightcrawler later received a note, which Scott and Jean intercepted after he left the Xavier Mansion rather abruptly. Upon learning that Mystique was his mother at the meeting place she had scheduled, Nightcrawler asked her what had happened to him before being teamed up on by the Brotherhood of Mutants, which resulted in the group defeating him. Shadowcat arrived with the rest of the team and fought against BLob during the ensuring battle, phasing through him as he ran towards her and allowing him into a mill, which he was trapped in.

With Wolverine

In the midst of Magneto beginning to carry out his plans, Kitty wrote to her parents and told them of her endeavors with the X-Men, describing their individual personalities. Once she began to feel crowed at the mansion, she talked to Wolverine about the issue before the other X-Men arrived. Wolverine began having cramps in his mind that resulted in violent behavior, which was fueled by learning of Mt. McKenna's recent activity. Kitty came towards him after he had inflicted damage in his room, and asked him if was okay. Following the ordeal, she expressed how she felt about Cyclops to her parents and elaborated on Wolverine as well to the two in her written reviews. Once getting aboard the Blackbird, she stressed that she would have to stop writing under the knowledge that she would be late for school. Kurt teleported in on her to make sure this did not happen and learned of her frustrations as the Blackbird started moving.

Not knowing that the two were inside the jet, Wolverine had started to depart. While she and Nightcrawler watched him pilot, she stressed that trying to make contact with him would result in something bad after informing him of his recent behavior. Once Kurt moved in, Wolverine hesitated attacking him and shut the door on them, to keep the two safe while he was in his uncontrollable state. The three arrived on Mt. McKenna, where Shadowcat followed him with Nightcrawler before he was defeated by Sabretooth and taken to the lab of a scientist, who had control over him. Once under his control, he attacked Shadowcat and Nightcrawler after seeing them. Though the two split up, Wolverine chose to continue his pursuit of Kitty. The latter tried to get him to come back to his senses, but failed as she was chased down further. She narrowly avoided death when she barely was able to avoid falling over a cliff.

File:Kitty pleads with Wolverine.png

Despite narrowly avoiding it, Wolverine actually believed he had caused her to die by going over the cliff and began to express remorse. Shadowcat came behind him and reasoned with him, stating that she understood what he was going through and told him not to give up. Once she sprung the question of if he really wanted to hurt her as she looked at him with sincere care and concern, Wolverine regained control and was hugged by Shadowcat before Sabretooth attacked him. However, he was able to take control and started to make his way back to the base of the scientist, which Kitty was proud of until learning from Nightcrawler that Sabretooth was intending for him to regain his control. Not giving up hope, Shadowcat told him that he would not be successful if they stopped him as Nightcrawler teleported them to the base. In the base, Shadowcat went after Wolverine while Nightcrawler distracted Sabretooth.

Wolverine had been bested by the multiple drones sent to combat him as he tried to get to the scientist while he was having difficulties with the effects on his mind being boasted by the scientist himself. Shadowcat arrived and upon seeing Wolverine, told him that she saw the problem as she ran to the station used to control Wolverine and caused it to explode by phasing inside of it. With Wolverine fully having his mind back, the latter told her to get out of there for her own protection. Though she told him that she was not leaving without him, Nightcrawler grabbed her and teleported the two away as the base exploded. Once the two recovered Wolverine, they took him back to the Xavier Mansion, where Kitty repeatedly checked on him and had a new lease on how she felt about being with the X-Men.

Rise and fall of Magneto

Magneto had completed his work on Asteroid M, and was ready to put it to use. He proposed a event, in which the X-Men would duel against his own recruits, symbolizing the rivalry between Charles and himself. Charles located Havok and took Cyclops to go see him, also leaving with Wolverine. In the process, Charles left the younger students behind with no reason, other than the fact that Scott was meeting a longtime family member. Though the group was somewhat irritated that their trip had been canceled, Kitty defended Scott, as she believed that she would have felt the same way and preferred to not be crowded. Once Kurt proposed for the team to go to a beach, the team left and were seen by Mystique, who revealed their intended destination to the Brotherhood of Mutants and the fact that the group was on the move. While riding to the beach, the four were attacked by the Brotherhood, for the first time being equal in numbers. Once the group was caused to land on to the beach, Avalanche used his powers to cause the four to be buried underneath the sand.

The group individually found their ways back to the top, Kitty phasing herself and Evan to the topside before the latter was attacked by Quicksilver. Once this occurred, Kitty was attacked by Blob, who smashed himself into her after lunging. Despite easily phasing through him, Kitty felt disgusted by the notion that he had been on top of her and quickly fell out, laying unconscious. Once the group left with Rogue, the three tried to interrogate Toad as to why they had been attacked. Toad revealed to them Magneto's plans and identified him as well, accompanying the team to their mansion, where Kitty called out for Storm. The latter had previously been attacked by Mystique, who she defeated prior to being forcefully taken away. Mystique answered the group and explained that Storm was not there, which only served as a prelude to Wolverine as he arrived and gathered the X-Men and soon Mystique and Toad to accompany him to Asteroid M. Once arriving at the asteroid, Kitty assisted in saving her teammates and assisted Spyke in defeating Avalanche, who had tried to crush him previously. Once she and the rest of the team began to depart, she alerted Storm of Wolverine still being aboard the asteroid and escaped. After getting off the asteroid, she watched as it was destroyed and stood firmly in the snow.

Powers and Abilities

Shadowcat had the ability to phase through anything, though expressed some limitations in what she could do. Despite the limitations, she served as a major support for the X-Men whenever they needed to do some cover work. When first discovering her powers, Kitty was not so easily prone to controlling her powers and used them in her sleep. Once Avalanche used his powers to try and kill her and her parents, Kitty was able to phase them through the stones he had casted on them. Once joining the X-Men, she underwent training to learn about other aspects of herself, but still maintained a level of concern for her powers. When going against Rogue, she tried to use the physical strength she had accumulated to tackle her and failed to cause much trouble to the girl besides getting her teammate to be touched and knocked out by her.

Personality

File:Shadowcat XME.png

Shadowcat.

Shadowcat was caring and especially concerned towards the lives of her teammates. While she did not have any female friends prior to the X-Men, she has been shown to be friends with a group of nerdy boys. This proves that she did not judge by the appearance of someone, but instead by the content of their character. She usually would not mind being with them openly and also cared greatly for them as well. With the X-Men, she was primarily the supporting member for anyone on the team whenever they faced difficulties, whether it be with their powers or with some other type of obstacle.

Relationships

Wolverine

Shadowcat first met Wolverine after she joined the X-Men. The latter regarded her as inexperienced, which he justified by the fact that she was at the time their newest member. Wolverine caused her to become angry once he seemingly insulted her by telling Kurt to keep a eye on her, but soon became distraught once he learned that he himself was the one that was harmed. Despite initially having a issue with his term he applied to her, she seemed to have grown use to it after some time and even reminded him of it on a later date once he was taken under control during their adventure at Mt. McKenna.

Lance Alvers

File:Lance saves Shadowcat.png

Despite going to school with Lance, Kitty did not meet him until after she discovered her powers over the course of her freshmen year in high school. Kitty was disturbed b his powers and the notion that he wanted to show her his, as she was still coping with being a mutant. Despite this open rejection, Lance promised her as she departed from him that he would retain a role in her life. Despite the latter trying to get the bullies she had off of her back, Kitty still felt disturbed by him and even assumed that he did not know anything regarding what she was going through. Once she left Jean alone, Lance approached her with apologizes for how he had portrayed himself and convinced her to meet with him later that day. Lance tried to get her to use her powers to phase the two through the office of their school so that he could get test results, which resulted in Kitty learning of his true intentions. Once her own parents arrived as he tried to grab her, Kitty phased her hand through him, which made him angry as he used his own abilities to attack her before departing.

Kurt Wagner

File:Kurt and Kitty.png

Shadowcat and Nightcrawler.

Shadowcat first met Nightcrawler after she joined the X-Men. The latter has long been believed to have had a crush on her, though whether or not it is true will never be known. He tried to cheer her up once she stressed that she felt like a fish out of water to the X-Men and only succeeded in freaking her with his teleporting on both sides of her. During their trip to recruit Rogue, she did not change her opinions much when he accidentally bumped into her while she was expressing romantic interest in Cyclops. He teleported to the front of the jet and fell forward, resulting in him teleporting inside and falling into Shadowcat. Despite apologizing, Kitty only became angrier and told him to just leave her alone. Once she and the others landed, she was paired with Wolverine and Nightcrawler. Once the latter was given permission by Wolverine to talk to Rogue on his own and began to relate to her, Kitty messed him up by assaulting her. In the commotion, Kurt tried to help her get off and only succeeded in harming himself once Rogue touched him and knocked him out.

While caring for Kurt by herself, Kitty displayed concern for him and even admitted to him as he laid unconscious that she was starting to get use to how he looked. During a training exercise, Kitty was tasked with keeping a football away from him and grabbed his tail during the event. The two also served as a duo on multiple occasions, which resulted in them often being paired together on missions. She began to become very good friends with him and even supported him during their time as members of the X-Men. She greatly liked him and joined the latter in making fun of Scott and Jean once the two started to date. The standard protocol had been to remark about their dating and laugh at them whenever they made hints towards liking each other. During a cruise, Kitty and Kurt both laughed at them once they stared into the stars before being spotted by the two, which cause both to try and hide from their teammates. Once he two grew into adults, they both remained members of the X-Men.

However, her characterization was highly criticized as being annoying and whiny. When X-Men was produced, Jubilee essentially filled the same role with the same criticisms. This was largely why Kitty was absent from the series.
