Red Skull is from the Marvel Cinematic Universe series What If...?.

Red Skull is a title used by multiple versions of Johann Schmidt from across the multiverse.

Biography[]

Red Skull, who was the leader of HYDRA, a division of the Nazis, came into possession of an object called the Tesseract, a very powerful energy source. HYDRA scientist Arnim Zola used the Tesseract to power several new types of weapons that he had created. However, Red Skull was opposed by Captain America and the Howling Commandos. Eventually, Red Skull launched a massive attack against the United States. Red Skull few a bomber filled with bombs powered by the Tesseract and planned to drop them on major U.S. cities. However, Captain America was able to get aboard the bomber and fought Red Skull. During the fight Captain America damaged the container holding the Tesseract and it fell out. Before it could hit the ground Red Skull grabbed it. The Tesseract then opened a portal to the planet Vormir and Red Skull was sent through it. On Vormir, Red Skull was cursed into becoming the guardian of the Soul Stone as punishment for abusing the power of the Space Stone.

Alternate Versions[]

Captain Carter Universe[]

In another universe, Red Skull was still the leader of HYDRA and still came into possession of the Tesseract. However, in this universe, Red Skull was opposed by Peggy Carter who was America's Super Soldier. Red Skull's plan for the Tesseract was also different. Instead of using it to power weapons, Red Skull used the Tesseract to open a portal to another dimension to bring a creature he called the Champion of HYDRA to Earth to help HYDRA win World War II. Red Skull succeeded in opening the portal. However, Red Skull was quickly killed by the Champion of HYDRA.

Ultron Won Universe[]

In another universe Red Skull possibly lived a similar life to that of Johann Schmidt. Schmidt's fate is unknown though he was possibly killed by Ultron during his conquest for peace across the universe.

Background[]

Red Skull was played by Hugo Weaving in Captain America: The First Avenger and by Ross Marquand in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and What If...?.
