Odin is the ruler of all of Asgard and Allfather of those who live there. He watches over the Nine Worlds of Asgard. His son is Thor and he adopted Loki of the Frost Giants. He must enter Odinsleep to recharge his body. Should Odin die, Asgard will encounter Ragnarok.

Biography[]

Odin was asked by the Dark Elves to help in their fight against the Frost Giants. However, he refused and they sought the help of Surtur. Realizing that Surtur would take over the Nine Worlds of Asgard if Jotunheim fell, Odin used Gungnir to defeat the fire demon and his sword Elderstahl. Odin then had problems raising Thor. He ordered the Einherjar to not win so that Asgard would still have faith in their prince. Thor and Loki left to find Elderstahl and Odin grew worried. When the Frost Giants, led by Thrym attacked, Odin learned his sons found the sword and killed two Jotuns. He then sent his advisor Algrim to find his sons. Algrim returned with Elderstahl and attacked him, blaming him for not helping his people. Odin was defeated but saved by Thor and Loki. Eventually forgave his son realizing they had both been wrong.

Loki tried to use the Frost Giants to defeat Asgard so Odin had Heimdall find Thor on Midgard. Thor arrived and defeated them. Odin then banished Loki to the Isle of Silence but he escaped thanks to Amora and Executioner.

During one Odinsleep, Loki brought Bruce Banner to Asgard. He and Amora separated the Hulk from Bruce so Loki could control him. Loki lost control and tried to kill Odin as he emitted a bright light. The Asgardians defended Odin including Sif, Volstagg, Hogun, Fandral, Balder, Brunnhilde, Valkyries, and even Amora and the Frost Giants. They were all unsuccessful. Hulk nearly killed Odin until Hela transported him away. Bruce then merged with Hulk and was sent back to Midgard. Odin then woke and praised Bruce Banner's heroism.

Background[]

Odin was voiced by French Tickner in Hulk vs Thor, Clancy Brown on The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Christopher Britton in Thor: Tales of Asgard.

Originally, Odin was to awake and defeat Hulk at the end of Hulk vs Thor. The producers changed this to make Bruce Banner more heroic.
