Miles Morales is a superhero and the second Spider-Man.

Biography[]

Becoming Spider-Man[]

Miles Morales is a teenager with an affinity for spray-painting graffiti who lives in Brooklyn, New York, where the city is protected by the beloved vigilante Spider-Man. Miles won a scholastic contest which enrolled him in Brooklyn Visions Academy Private School, though in spite of this, he was reluctant to leave behind his friends and his old school where he was very popular. His reluctance surrounding his new school occasionally put him at odds with father. After a while, school begins to stress Miles out, which causes him to visit his paternal uncle Aaron Davis. Aaron leads Miles to an abandoned subway terminal, which serves as a canvas for Miles to freely graffiti and express himself as a way to release stress. While in the subway, Miles is bitten by a genetically modified spider labeled "42," which he quickly smacks and kills.

Miles Morales (Sony Universe)

During the following day, Miles undergoes a bizarre series of changes, including a growth spurt and the ability to adhere to materials and surfaces. He has an awkward encounter with a girl he has a crush on at his new school who claims to go by "Wanda" when he accidentally gets his fingers stuck to her hair and she has to shear part of it off. He also finds that he can walk on walls and the ceiling. When he returns to his dorm room, he finds a comic book owned by his roommate which shows the origin of Spider-Man after he is bitten by an irradiated spider and begins to experience similar things to Miles.

Determined to prove to himself that he has not developed the same powers, he revisits the subway terminal where the spider bit him and finds that the spider exhibits bizarre traits even after its death. Surprised and confused, Miles is suddenly drawn to a mysterious subterranean lab where Kingpin is trying to operate a 'super collider' to open a wormhole to another universe. There to stop him is Spider-Man, who fights off Kingpin's goons, including the Green Goblin, Tombstone, and Prowler. In the midst of the fight, Spider-Man rescues Miles, who has fallen into the particle collider. Finding that Miles is like him, Spider-Man offers to train him if he sticks around, but Spider-Man is later badly beaten by the Goblin, who collapses part of the collider on the two of them, trapping Spider-Man. Miles goes to rescue Spider-Man, who tells him not to worry because he always gets back up. He then hands Miles a flash drive which can shut down the particle collider and tells him to do that while he distracts the villains. Miles goes to leave, but then witnesses Kingpin brutally kill Spider-Man out of rage at something he said.

Horrified and in shock at what he saw, Miles flees, with Kingpin sending Prowler after him, and returns to his home instead of his dorm room, where he spends in the night. He overhears a news report detailing the death of Spider-Man, whose real name is revealed to be Peter Parker, a twenty-six year-old grad student married to Mary Jane Watson. News of the death of the beloved Spider-Man spreads throughout New York and Miles, ridden with guilt, buys a Spider-Man dress-up costume. He attends the eulogy by Mary Jane, where she states that everyone is Spider-Man in the end, which Miles takes to heart, as he has the potential to carry on Peter's legacy.

Later on, Miles attempts to master his new abilities but fails, damaging the flash drive in the process. He visits the grave of Peter Parker, but is approached by a man wearing web-shooters and a Spider-Man suit. After inadvertently electrocuting the man, Miles drags him through the city using his webs until they manage to get to safety in an empty Aaron's apartment. Once he regains consciousness, the man introduces himself as Peter B. Parker who is older, more jaded, and apathetic version of Miles's Spider-Man. Peter explains that he was universe-displaced by the particle collider and exhibits the effect of "glitching," which causes him pain. When Miles reveals that he has a way to destroy the collider with the flash drive, Peter steals the drive from him and leaves, but returns when Miles guilt trips him into training him as his Spider-Man promised he would.

Super Collider Incident[]

Peter takes Miles to the advanced technology and research company Alchemax in order to download information about the super collider, where they are found by Dr. Olivia Octavius, whereupon Miles turns invisible, another unique ability of his. Octavius captures Peter, revealing herself to be Doctor Octopus. Peter temporarily battles her off and he escapes into the woods with Miles, where Miles receives an impromptu web-swinging lesson. Doc Ock nearly caught Miles and Peter. However, Spider-Woman arrived and rescued them. Spider-Woman then revealed to Miles that she was Wanda but told him that her real name was Gwen Stacy.

Later, Peter, Miles, and Gwen go to May Parker's house and asks to use her Peter's laboratory unaware that her Peter actually had a secret cave beneath her house. In the Spider Cave, Miles, Peter, and Gwen met other spider people that were brought to their dimension when the Super Collider exploded. They were Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and Spider-Ham. However, the other Spider people believed that Miles would not be able to help them since he was so inexperienced.

When Miles started to fell the pressure of the responsibility of helping to stop the Super Collider and save the multiverse, he went to Aaron's apartment to talk to him. However, when Miles got there Aaron wasn't home. A short time later someone was coming into the apartment threw the fire escape. Miles saw that is was the Prowler and he turned himself invisible. Miles was shocked to learn that the Prowler was really his uncle Aaron when he removed his mask. Miles left the apartment but he was spotted by Aaron who chased after him. However, Miles was able to escape.

Miles returned to Aunt May's house and frantically informed the Spider-Gang that the Prowler was really his Uncle Aaron. However, Miles was followed and they were attacked by Prowler, Doctor Octopus, Tombstone and Scorpion. The Spider-Gang fought the supervillains and tried to keep the override key away from them. Miles got the override key and went to the roof of May's house to escape. However, Prowler followed Miles and grabbed him. Prowler nearly killed Miles until Miles removed his mask and told Prowler that he knew he was his Uncle Aaron. Kingpin who was nearby communicated with Prowler through an earpiece and ordered him to kill Miles. However, when Aaron refused to kill Miles, Kingpin shot Aaron in the back and severely injured him. Miles web slinged away with Aaron to a nearby alley. There Aaron apologized to Miles for everything he had done as the Prowler. As Aaron died Jefferson came onto the scene and saw Spider-Man over a body. Jefferson pulled his gun and ordered Spider-Man to surrender. However, Miles turned invisible and got away. Jefferson was distraught when he discovered that the dead man was Aaron and believed that Spider-Man was responsible since he saw Miles standing over him. Jefferson then put an APB out for Spider-Man.

A short time later at Miles' dorm room at Visions Academy, Peter took the override key from Miles and webbed him up. Peter told Miles that he couldn't come with them because his inexperience could put him in danger. Miles tried to tell Peter he was ready to no avail. Only seconds after the Spider-Gang left the dorm room Jefferson knocked on the door. However, Miles was unable to answer because he was still webbed to the chair and his mouth was webbed shut. Jefferson sadly informs Miles that Aaron had died and gives him a motivational speech about the great thing he is capable of. His father's speech inspires Miles and he uses his Venom Blast to break free from the webbing. Miles then went to May and asked her to design him a new costume which she did. Miles new Spider-Man costume was black and red.

Spider-Man (Miles Morales) (Sony Universe)

Just as Spider-Man and the Spider-Gang got to Kingpin's base with the override key, Kingpin had just activated the Super Collider. However, just as Spider-Man was about to use the override key to stop the Super Collider, he was attacked by Doctor Octopus. Doc Ock nearly killed Spider-Man but Miles arrived and rescued him. Miles then used the override key on the Super Collider which allowed Peter, Gwen, Spider-Man Noir, Peni, and Spider-Ham to return home.

However, the override key caused Kingpin to lose contact with alternate versions of his wife and son and he attacked Miles. Enraged at the fact that he lost his family again Kingpin struck Miles the same way he did Peter Parker and intended to kill him. However, Miles survived this blow. Miles got back up and grabbed Kingpin and threw him into a control panel which caused the Super Collider to explode.

Spider-Man turned Kingpin over to the police and also talked to his father while still in costume. Spider-Man told Jefferson that he was looking forward to working with him. Before leaving Spider-Man said "I love you" to Jefferson. Jefferson would often have Miles tell him that he loves him in front of his school as a way to jokingly make fun of him. This lead Jefferson to believe that Spider-Man was really his son.

Powers and Abilities[]

Having been bitten by a genetically altered spider similar to Peter Parker himself, Miles possesses enhanced strength, speed, agility, the early warning system known as Spider-Sense and the ability to climb walls.

Miles possesses the proportionate strength of a spider. Using his profound powers, Miles can harm opponents such as Kingpin and Doctor Octopus. He was also able to crack a boulder in two by slamming his fist into it due to his frustration with Peter Parker.

Miles possesses superhuman speed that allows him to transverse at high amounts of paces while running, as well as traveling while web-swinging.

Miles possesses great amounts of enhanced levels of agility that are beyond the natural physical limits of an Olympic-level gymnast. While running on the sidewalk and into the road, Miles could land on his feet without harm once he was ran over by a car.

Miles possesses the ability to cling onto any surface using just his fingertips and feet. The extent is how much pressure he can stick to walls is less than perfect, considering how much focus he needs to handle lifting his own weight.

When danger is present, Miles possesses a tingling sensation in his head as sort of an early warning system, allowing him to react accordingly. His spider-sense offers him near complete awareness of his surroundings, and in conjunction with his reflexes, allows him to instinctively dodge or nearly counter all attacks. His spider-sense can also come to contact greatly with that of Peter Parker from his dimension, making them have some sort of connection.

Miles can blend himself and his clothing into his surroundings, making him effectively invisible to the human eye.

A form of directed energy that can be conducted through Miles' hands and can be used against an opponent at a distance by conducting it through a material in which both Miles and his opponent are in contact, even managing to knock out Peter Parker and defeating Kingpin.

Personality[]

Miles is a young, bright and confident young man. While initially hesitant to take on the role of Spider-Man, he eventually accepts his role as New York's protector and with the guidance of an alternate version of Peter Parker, works to become a Spider-Man.

Background[]

Miles is voiced by Shameik Moore.

The first version seen in film. The character was referenced only in the Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures Entertainment film Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The post credits scene for Venom, features Miles escaping from Prowler, going to Peter Parker's grave, knocking out the other Peter, and trying to escape the police with the second Peter's unconscious body. It was proceeded with the title card "Meanwhile, in another universe..." indicating that the two movies may exist in the same multiverse.

Moore expressed interest in reprising the role for live-action. "I definitely want to be the live action Miles Morales. I understand that he's a young kid, but hopefully you know, they can play with time and put me in there. But I'm thankful for the opportunity. I would love to be fighting Venom as Miles, with Tom Hardy. You know what I mean? That would be great. I would love to play on screen with my favorite actor out right now." He added, "Yeah, at the end of Venom they show our clip, Into the Spider-Verse. And I think that's a seed, it just has to be. Hopefully in the bigger universe, I look like Miles Morales, all I have to do is cut my hair, so let's make it happen."[1]
