I'm gonna say that when it comes to listing the appearances to main characters, particularly those who appear in the opening credits, just use the All feature instead of listing each episode. Listing each appearance is more for guest stars (like Nick Fury) and recurring characters (Cannonball).
I mean, how many episodes does Shadowcat not appear in X-Men: Evolution besides the one before her introduction? One, maybe two. It seems to me that it's unnecessarily tedious to read, and write, every episode of the third longest Marvel series except for one or two.
On Memory Alpha, whenever a main character doesn't appear they just mention it in the episode page. That would seem to me to be the easier route.
Right, but many other regulars that appear in the credits still don't appear in that many episodes. For example, Storm is in 33 episodes, Rogue is in 41 and Beast is in 22 episodes, even less than Iceman, who wasn't even in the credits. That's the reason why I chose to put all of their appearances.
I'd say that if the character was consistently a main character throughout the series (Wolverine, Storm, Kitty) just use the all even if they weren't in every single episode. For those that became a main character or dropped out (Beast, Spyke) you could just list the seasons they were mains. You don't have to just use episodes or all.
Any time someone appears in more than half of the series, or just the season, it's easier to list non appearances than appearances.
One thing I would like to say, is that I am far from lazy when it comes to getting things done. I've been willing and able to help you before and intend to continue. That was one of the main reasons I chose to add all of the appearances, to make the wiki as acurate as possible. Though I am not contesting to your way of doing things, I see myself as adding a alternative.
I have always been willing and able to go above and beyond to do anything that I wanted to do. And editing on here is something I want to do. I really believe that listing the appearances of characters is something better than the seasons. Once the X-Men series gets some means of being uploaded again, I'll try to get some information for it up here.
There's being complete and then there's readability. What are you going to do for the main cast of X-Men? It's 76 episodes and I don't think any of them appear in each and every episode. Going to list 70-75 episodes just because someone didn't appear in one, two, or five episodes? And who would want to read that? It's a long boring list just to say Wolverine didn't appear in "Descent" and maybe a few others. It would take someone a long time to scroll by to get to the voice actor and other versions, and some might not bother to go through that.
I don't expect that for most of the shows. But, since it is the longest. I was figuring that we could put a complete season there if the character appeared in every episode. If they did not, then put the individual episodes.
I am kind of surprised that the Wolverine page has been left untouched, given that most consider him the main character of the series. I understand that you enjoyed the series if I am correct. If you don't mind me asking, do you have a favorite character?
X-Men was an ensemble piece with none of them given any significant more time than the others. That's something Marvel seems to have forgotten in recent years. I like Wolverine and the X-Men and the movies, but it should never be Wolverine and those other guys.
That being said, my favorite X-Man has always been Logan.
Seems like somebody else finally agrees with me on this. The focus on Wolverine in Wolverine and the X-Men was always something that drew me back from the series and caused me to like the others more, also the fact that I saw them when I was younger as well. I think there might be a nostalgia thing to that as well. I wasn't exactly sad when Wolverine and the X-Men got cancelled, since I saw the series as having too much focus on him and treating the other "main" characters like they were his supporting cast, aside from Cyclops and Emma Frost.
I think at this point you can pretty much tell who my favorite X-Man is.
I grew up in the 90s on shows like X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman. I miss the more straightforward adaptations. I don't care for these gimmicky modern series. Turning Tony Stark into a kid, spending an entire X-Men series one averting one dystopian future, training Spider-Man into an Avenger. I just want a series to feature the hero, introduce villains, and be reasonably faithful to the comics. No weird teams, no odd aging thing, no centering the series on stopping one event. Just good stories.
That's what I've been saying all along! I used to like the Spider-Man and X-Men cartoons for the simple fact that they tried to actually be as faithful to the comics as possible. To be honest with you, it was one of the major reasons why I like X-Men: Evolution and Spectacular Spider-Man. Both shows reminded me of their predecessors with stories that I felt genuinely invested in.
Spectacular was fine. Not my favorite, after all I still hear C.D. Barnes whenever I read Spidey, but was certainly enjoyable.
In hindsight, I like what Evolution did. There's a lot of interesting stories there. But I remember not liking it when it came out. I didn't care for making them teenagers. I have never liked teenage superhero angst in shows, and the show's best stories were when they were being superheroes not just teenagers. Because Wolverine was so noticeably older the show missed out on that terrific Logan-Jean-Scott triangle and Duncan was a poor substitute.
I saw the 90's series when I was younger, so it is more along the lines my favorite Spider-Man series.
I agree with you on Evolution, since many of what I consider the series's best stories were regarding Apocalypse and Magneto, things that did not have to do with the teenage stuff. Heck, now that I am in the age group that the characters were primarily in, I still prefer the superhero stuff. A petpeave of mine was that they were not referred to by their codenames many times, and it began to irritate me. I mean, how many times was Kitty called Shadowcat? Like 3 or 4. The codenames were sparcely used, especially for her and the New Mutants.
Also, if I may ask the question, do you have a preferred animated version of Wolverine?
I like Steven Blum's work, particularly on Hulk vs Wolverine. But Cathal J. Dodd's voice is the one I hear when I read Wolverine. After all, he's the only one who had any kind of recurring relationship with Jean. On XME the age difference was too great and she wasn't around for most of Wolverine and the X-Men and Marvel Anime: X-Men.
That's my main problem with some of the character interactions in both of those series. Too many characters and so little time. I believe that they should have took one of those Wolverine episodes, threw it in the dumpster and gave Iceman something to do, who is probably the least developed of the entire cast of supposed "main" characters.
As time has gone on, I have taken a liking to history pages, as they both increase the number of pages on the wiki and reduce the size of a page getting ridiculously wrong. I was hoping that you would consider doing such with some of the pages I planned to rewrite.
Yeah, no thanks. There's no page that needs its biography/history section divided up. Besides, there's plenty of red links needing pages already and stubs needing expanding, as well as more upcoming shows/videos, that we don't need to worry about finding more ways to expand.
Next time you want to put a new main image in a character page, as you did with Green Goblin, don't just remove the existing image. I like the Green Goblin image, but you didn't move the Norman Osborn picture anywhere else and it became unused.
Central Wikia has contacted me to state that you have been using sockpuppets on this wiki. The use of multiple accounts, or sockpuppets, is not allowed on this wiki. You have used them to force consensus in discussions. The other accounts have been marked and banned, leaving this as your only account. If you are found to be using more sockpuppets this account will also be banned.
Before you go uploading all those images again, know that you can simply rename them. Just go to the image's page and in the drop down box click rename. Then just add XME to the end. That way you're just uploading all the same images requiring a lot of deleting.
