Reception

James Harvey of Marvel Animation Age said the series got some aspects of the character right but had bizarre character designs and a questionable voice actor. He enjoyed it despite the series dragging at times. He liked that it was a simple story of Wolverine fighting his way to Mariko rather than have twists or shocks. He did note that it stretched the story out and had several meaningless fights. He felt the action scenes had style that wore itself out the longer the scenes went on. He pointed out that by the third time Wolverine fought Omega Red he wished it would simply end. He noted that each episode followed the same basic format and while it got tiresome it was worth waiting for the next episode. He felt that all of the characters lacked in any kind of development. He found it hard to be interested in characters when so few were developed. He did enjoy some parts like Cyclops's cameo, the high body count, and the fact that the ending wasn't tidy. He claimed that while the series got a lot right, Wolverine was not one of them. He felt the design was a misstep as he didn't like the "pretty boy" look. "While the series can drag from time to time, there are plenty of moments to keep viewers enthused, even if it can be a struggle to get to that last episode. Wolverine fans – once you get over the not-so-good character design for him – should be pleased with what they find. If you’re new to the show, give it a Rental, but if you’re a fan? Well … pick it up!" [1]
