Star-Lord started the team to protect the galaxy from terrible threats. Whenever Adam Warlock senses an imbalance in the power of the universe, the team heads to that point to confront it. At some point they learned about Kree experimentations on a human abductee named Michael Korvac. The Kree unleashed some kind of energy within Korvac, possibly a hidden gene in humanity (borrowing from the Inhumans). Korvac destroyed his captors and escaped. Later Korvac destroyed a space station and most of a planet laughing the entire time. Realizing his destructive powers, the Guardians tracked Korvac. Even though they could not physically defeat him they hoped to trap him in Warlock's Soul Gem.
The project was first revealed during the infamous Sony hack in 2014, and was made official a few months later. Rumors surrounding the film circulated until 2017 when it was officially announced that Miles Morales, who took over as Spider-Man in the Ultimate universe following Peter's death, would be the star of the film. Miles was chosen for the idea that anyone could be under the mask, while also having a different dynamic than Peter Parker. The story combines elements from Miles' origin in 2011 following Peter's death and the 2014 cross-universe story arc. The film employs an entirely new style of animation in order to duplicate the look of a comic book. It moved away from the smooth computer generated images used by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, and DreamWorks. It was created by computers but then drawn over by hand. It contains deliberate errors, Ben-Day dots, halftoning, and other stylistic choices to imitate a classic comic book look. In addition, characters from other universes are stylized differently according to their own worlds, similar to the Spider-Verse episodes of usm.

Despite being bright, he is overwhelmed and tries to get himself kicked out. He later visits with his uncle Prowler (Mahershala Ali) who takes him into the subway to practice his graffiti art. While there, he is bitten by a spider with Alchemax written on its back. He wakes up the next morning with powers similar to Spider-Man. He makes his way back to the subway where he finds the spider "glitching." The collider explodes severely injuring Spider-Man. Spider-Man gives Miles a device that can destroy the collider. He tells Kingpin that his plan won't work, causing the crimelord to kill him. Miles returns home when news of Spider-Man's death and real identity spreads across the city. Miles feels guilty about not being able to do anything to save the hero and sets out to become the next Spider-Man, buying a Halloween Spider-Man costume from an elderly man (Stan Lee). However, his training results in the device being destroyed. While visiting Peter's grave, he is confronted by another Peter Parker (Alternate Universe) (Jake Johnson) from another universe who is older, out of weight, and divorced from his Mary Jane Watson (Zoe Kravitz). This new Peter reluctantly agrees to train Miles while recreating the original Peter's steps in making the device. They infiltrate Alchemax and are confronted by lead scientist Olivia Octavius, also known as Doctor Octopus (Kathryn Hahn). They steal her computer and flee, where Spider-Woman appears to stop Doc Ock. She reveals she is Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), who is the only spider-based hero in her universe. They go to (Lily Tomlin) to recreate the device where she introduces them to three more spider-heroes: a 1930s Noir Spider-Man (Noir) (Nicolas Cage), a young Japanese girl (Kimiko Glenn) from the future with the SP//dr armor, and the anthropomorphic Spider-Ham (John Mulaney). They are all glitching, since anyone out of their universe is slowly being destroyed. Miles realizes he is the only one who can send them back and destroy the collider without dying. However, the rest doubt his untested skills. Miles runs and returns to his uncle's apartment where he finds that Prowler is actually Aaron. Miles returns to May's home where Kingpin's forces confront the heroes. Prowler chases after Miles who takes off his mask. Aaron lets him go but is shot by Kingpin. Miles takes him away where Aaron dies in his arms. The other heroes find Miles, and Peter ties him up as he will stay behind to destroy the collider. Miles finds the strength to, for once, willingly use his powers to escape Peter's webbing. He returns to May's and paints a Spider-Man suit to use himself. The others arrive at Fisk Towers where Wilson is holding a memorial for Spider-Man, attended by Peter's wife Mary Jane Parker (Kravitz). While infiltrating the memorial, Peter confesses to the other Mary Jane he is sorry for how things turned out. The group arrive at the collider but are confronted by Kingpin's forces. Miles arrives and helps them defeat the villains. They use the device sending each person back their world but Kingpin comes to attack Miles for stopping his plans. Miles is overwhelmed and nearly killed. He uses a technique his uncle taught him to knock out Kingpin and destroys the collider. He hands Kingpin over to his cop father Jefferson Davis (Brian Tyree Henry) and makes up with him. Rocket Defends Star-Lord AEMH

The Guardians of the Galaxy are a team seen in the The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes episode "Michael Korvac". It is comprised of Star-Lord (Steve Downes), Adam Warlock (Kirk Thornton), Groot (Troy Baker), Rocket Raccoon (Greg Ellis), and Quasar (Moira Quirk). This is based on the original version of the revival team, except for the absence of Drax and Gamora. This was the first time the team was seen outside the comics.

The Guardians tracked Korvac to Earth, where he was trying to find his lost love Corrina. They went to New York City to a mansion and found the Avengers protecting him, who didn't know what he did. Due to a misunderstanding and a language barrier, the Avengers attacked the Guardians. Black Panther fought Warlock, Hawkeye fought Star-Lord, Iron Man fought Quasar, and Hulk fought Rocket and Groot while Wasp lead Korvac and Corrina away. Eventually Star-Lord talked Hawkeye into helping them stop Korvac.

Hawkeye convinced the Avengers to stop fighting, but Korvac unleashed his powers. Warlock pulled them all into the Soul Gem to save their lives. Inside the gem, the Guardians explained to the Avengers about how dangerous Korvac is. The two teams united and headed to Central Park where Korvac was fighting Ms. Marvel, mistaking her for a Kree spy due to her powers. The two teams gave an impressive battle, but were still no match for Korvac. Eventually Corrina expressed her fear at what he became and he disappeared somewhere where Warlock couldn't sense him. Iron Man then wished to talk with Star-Lord about potential threats, but Star-Lord denied his request saying that some things in the galaxy are better left unknown.
