Algrim is a character featured in Thor: Tales of Asgard. He was voiced by Ron Halder. This is the only animated version of the character and only version outside the comics where Algrim is seen without being Kurse. Long ago, Algrim lived in Svartalfheim with his wife and children. However, a war between the dark elves and frost giants of Jotunheim threatened to overwhelm them. Algrim asked Odin of Asgard for help but he refused. The elves then got the fire demon Surtur to to attack the Jotuns. Odin knew that Surtur planned to take over the Nine Worlds of Asgard and defeated him on the plains of Jotunheim. The Jotuns then murdered all the elves except for Algrim while leaving Svartalfheim a desolate wasteland. With no where else to go, he moved to Asgard where he became Odin's advisor and father-figure to Thor and Loki. One day, Thor found that his training was rigged and he had another fight with his father. Algrim comforted him as always, but the boy decided to search for Elderstahl, the legendary sword of Surtur lost in Jotunheim. Algrim tried to talk him out of it but the boy was set on going. Being friends, Algrim promised not to tell Odin. Later, the king came to the elf seeking advice as both his boys were missing. The two chatted about the difficulties of raising boys. The All Father thanked his advisor and left him alone. Soon after, Algrim and Odin learned that Thor, Loki, and the Warriors Three burned down a pub. Then, the Jotunheim army came to Asgard's walls led by King Thrym, the one who had killed all the elves, and his son Prince Geirmarr. They claimed that Thor found Elderstahl and killed a patrol. To avert all-out war, Thrym wanted the sword. Algrim volunteered to return to Svartalfheim, which lay between Asgard and Jotunheim, to find the boys. He and the Einherjar found the boys, the Warriors Three, and Sif along with the sword. Thor offered Elderstahl to Algrim, who was quickly corrupted by the evil sword. Algrim's long buried feelings of resentment fueled the sword and he killed the Einherjar then threatened the others. He returned to Asgard where he attacked Odin. Despite using Gungnir, the spear that toppled Surtur, Odin was surprised by his advisor and nearly killed. Thor appeared and stopped him. The two fought in complete darkness until Thor learned to listen for the elf. Thor offered to spare Algrim, but not forgive him. However, Loki became angry that his father nearly died and used Elderstahl to completely destroy Algrim.
