Force Works Disbands

Force Works is a team that was the focus of the series Iron Man. Several characters also appeared in the The Incredible Hulk episode "Helping Hand, Iron Fist" and the The Avengers: United They Stand episode "Shooting Stars". Iron Man was on the team at the time of production. However, following the disbanding of the team in the second season premiere "The Beast Within" the comic version disbanded eight months later.

The team was comprised of Iron Man, War Machine, Spider-Woman, Century, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and U.S. Agent (who only appeared in the comic book tie-in to the series). The team focused on fighting Mandarin and his minions calling themselves The Hand. The Hand kept trying to steal technology from Stark Enterprises while Force Works protected them. The team also fought villains such as Justin Hammer, Titanium Man, Fin Fang Foom, radioactive zombies, and Ultimo. MODOK once asked the team for help when Mandarin kidnapped his wife. Half the team was hypnotized by Hypnotia while learning the history of Mandarin. They even investigated Hawkeye when they thought he was a double-agent.

At one point, The Hand discovered that Iron Man was Tony Stark. He decided to have a life model decoy marry Julia Carpenter while he protected them as Iron Man. The Hand was fooled, but then Tony and Julia realized they had feelings for each other. He then designed an artificial intelligence named H.O.M.E.R.. When Hammer tried to have him killed, Tony faked his death to stop him and Mandarin. While Mandarin was apparently killed, the team became angry that Tony would trick his friends. The team disbanded and only Julia and Rhodey stayed with him.

The three continued on alone fighting enemies like Dark Aegis, Crimson Dynamo, and Leader. Iron Man fought friend and foe alike when he started the Armor Wars. After Rhodey nearly drowned, he became claustrophobic in his armor. Iron Man and Hulk traveled through time to rescue Julia. Eventually, Mandarin returned from the dead and reformed The Hand. He attacked the United Nations intending to take over the Earth. He formed an anti-technology fog across the planet that disabled Iron Man and War Machine's armor. Tony reformed Force Works since most their powers did not require technology. However, Mandarin trapped the team with an anti-power fog then melted Iron Man's armor. Tony escaped and built a bio-mechanical armor. He defeated Mandarin and The Hand then began a relationship with Julia.

At some point, Bruce Banner and Rick Jones came to Force Works for help against General Ross and his Hulkbusters. Bruce hit his head and lost his memories, but Tony reminded him who he was as Bruce was one of the few to know Iron Man's identity. Iron Man also joined the Avengers though did not stay with the Earth's mightiest heroes. Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch left again to join the Avengers. When Zodiac began attacking satellites, Iron Man joined his former teammates and the latest version of the Avengers in stopping the alien team.
