+ | Reaction to the episode was mixed but generally negative. The animation was praised for being high quality, though not unusual for a test pilot. Fans were upset at the characterizations. In particular, Kitty was seen as too whiny when in the [[Marvel Comics|comics]] she was becoming more prominent. Also derided was the traditionally Canadian Wolverine given an Australian accent as {{C|Wolverine|smaf|he}} had on {{smaf}}. |

"Pryde of the X-Men" was the initial test pilot for X-Men, originally broadcast in 1989. It was produced by Marvel Production and animated by Toei Animation. The pilot was unsuccessful and the X-Men would not get their own series until "Night of the Sentinels". The mutant terrorist Magneto is being transported in a prison convoy when White Queen breaks him out. Meanwhile, Kitty Pryde arrives at the Xavier Mansion greeted by Professor X. He shows her the X-Men (comprised of Cyclops, Colossus, Dazzler, Nightcrawler, Wolverine, and Storm) practicing in the Danger Room. When Nightcrawler's teleporting scares her, she phases through the console shorting it out and angering Wolverine. The X-Men then head to the Deep Space Observatory to stop the Brotherhood of Mutant Terrorists who have taken hostages. They fight off Blob and Pyro, who already took the coordinates for the Scorpio Comet. At the same time, Magneto and Juggernaut attack the mansion to steal the Mutant Power Circuit. Professor X learns that Magneto plans to divert the comet towards Earth destroying humanity so he can rule the survivors. They fly to Asteroid M to stop the Brotherhood. The X-Men take on the Brotherhood one on one until just Nightcrawler and Kitty are left. They stop the comet, but if Nightcrawler moves the comet will resume heading towards Earth. The X-Men return to the Blackbird and Nightcrawler teleports out of there at the last moment. The X-Men acknowledge Kitty's heroism, though Wolverine claims she isn't an X-Man yet. Reaction to the episode was mixed but generally negative. The animation was praised for being high quality, though not unusual for a test pilot. Fans were upset at the characterizations. In particular, Kitty was seen as too whiny when in the comics she was becoming more prominent. Also derided was the traditionally Canadian Wolverine given an Australian accent as he had on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends.
