John V. Romita Sr. (born January 24, 1930; died June 12, 2023) was a writer who famously worked on The Amazing Spider-Man for Marvel Comics. He was credited as a character creator on The Marvel Super Heroes, Spider-Man, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, X-Men, Spider-Man, X-Men: Evolution, Hulk Vs, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Black Panther, Avengers Confidential: Black Widow & Punisher, and Ultimate Spider-Man; story and art consultant on Spider-Man; and illustrator for the comics seen during the credits on Hulk Vs.
He is the father of fellow comic book writer John Romita, Jr..
Biography[]
For DC Comics he worked on Falling in Love, Girls' Romances, Heart Throbs, and Young Romance. For Marvel he worked on The Amazing Spider-Man, Avengers, Black Knight, Captain America, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Four, The Incredible Hulk, Kid Colt Outlaw, Kingpin, Marvel Tales, Six-Gun Western, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Tales of Suspense, Tales to Astonish, The Tomb of Dracula, Ultimate Spider-Man, Uncanny X-Men, Web of Spider-Man, and World of Mystery.
Romita died in his sleep at his Floral Park, New York, home on June 12, 2023, at the age of 93. The news was broken by his son, John Jr., the following day.
