The armor was designed to be quite similar to the Iron Man armor used by Tony Stark and nearly matched his own.

History[]
The armors were specially designed by Tony Stark when he felt he should retire as Iron Man. He built them to be used by others so they could fight crime in his place.
Tony brought the armors to Japan for testing but were stolen by the Zodiac. They were used by Ho Yinsen against Tony. Tony fought Yinsen and the armors, but Yinsen sacrificed himself to save Tony.
Afterwards, he took the armors back to the United States for safekeeping.
