Gary Bernard Altman (born May 10, 1934; died February 12, 2015), credited as Gary Owens, was an actor who played himself and a bystander on Fantastic Four
Biography[]
Known for his iconic baritone voice, Owens was the narrator and announcer on several programs and commercials. Perhaps his most known works is the announcer on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. His most famous line is "Beautiful downtown Burbank," which was used in many programs.
Other notable works include McHale's Navy, The Munsters, Space Ghost, The Green Hornet, Batman, Midnight Cowboy, European Vacation, Sesame Street, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, Night Court, Bobby's World, Dinosaurs, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Garfield & Friends, Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron, Spy Hard, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Eek! the Cat, The New Batman Adventures, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Muppets from Space, That '70s Show, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Dexter's Laboratory, Comic Book: The Movie, Johnny Bravo, and Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
On February 12th, 2015, Owens died in his home having suffered from diabetes since the age of eight. He is survived by his wife Arleta and sons Scott and Chris[1]
