Acolytes are a group of mutants formed under the leadership of Magneto. Unlike Magneto's former henchmen team, the Brotherhood of Mutants, the Acolytes are more exclusive and typically more powerful.

History[]
Sometime after his failure with Asteroid M Magneto formed a group of mutants who were more powerful than the Brotherhood. He blackmailed Colossus into joining through his sister. They fought the X-Men and Brotherhood, who had joined forces under the deception of Mystique in the disguise of Charles Xavier. They fought and defeated the Sentinel.
Magneto then got Gambit to offer the Brotherhood a place on the team if they rescued Quicksilver from a military transport. The Brotherhood was successful but Quicksilver was placed in command of the team to determine if they were ready for the Acolytes.
Magneto later recruited Mastermind to change the memories of Scarlet Witch so that she loved her father. Toad was initially opposed to the idea, as he had a crush on her, but Quicksilver pointed out that she would stop hunting Magneto and stay near him.
The Acolytes later joined with the Brotherhood and X-Men to stop the release of Apocalypse. However, all teams failed.
They later disbanded when Magneto apparently died. Colossus went back to his native Russia while Sabretooth and Gambit disappeared to places unknown, separately of course.
Magneto was revealed to be alive as a Horseman of Apocalypse. The Brotherhood, X-Men, and S.H.I.E.L.D. defeated the Apocalypse and his Horsemen freeing Magneto.
Xavier read Apocalypse's mind and saw a vision of the future where Colossus joined the X-Men. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch returned to their father's side.
Background[]
The first version of the team to be recurring characters. They appeared for just a two-part episode of X-Men.
In the Comics[]
Colossus only joined after the death of his sister. Here, he seems to have joined to protect her.
Gambit, Wolverine, Cyclops, Beast, and Rogue only joined when brainwashed.
Avalanche and Omega Red have also joined at one time or another.
Forge has joined in an alternate universe.
