Reception[]

On the show's twentieth anniversary, a clip of Mary Jane's clone dying was shown at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo. Following the clip, Ballantine began crying as she had not seen it since the show aired. [1]

Comic Book Resources ranked this episode and its predecessor as the second greatest episode of the series. They noted how Hydro-Man was creepy even without his powers as he's obsessed with Mary Jane. They felt it ended with the most heart-wrenching moment in the series as the Mary Jane clone died. They called it an emotional roller coaster unlike any other. They noted that few other episodes in the series were capable of conveying that much emotion in such a short amount of time.[2]
