Falcon and Hawkeye are training, and Hawkeye shoots an arrow to the control panel in order to ramp the difficulty up. After the training ends, Falcon chastises Hawkeye for almost killing him.

The Avengers assemble and Sikorski tells them about Mythrax, a dangerous virus, and a series of robberies that coincide with the visit of the circus Hawkeye belonged to. Sikorski also complains about Hawkeye still being an Avenger, so Hawkeye quits.

Clint goes out of costume to the circus, where he finds his old mentor Swordsman. They remember when Swordsman trained Clint and they turned to crime until Swordsman was arrested. Swordsman takes clint to the Ringmaster, and Clint offers his services as an archer for the circus.

The Avengers find the circus trying to steal the Mythrax, and Hawkeye among them. The Human Cannonball shoots himself against Vision, who first becomes intangible to avoid him, and then takes rock-like density to intercept him. The Ringmaster escapes leaving a bomb, plus an illusion of more bombs to confuse the Avengers. Luckily, Redwing identifies the real bomb and takes it away, being damaged by the explosion, but is saved in mid-fall by Falcon.

The Avengers pursue the Circus trucks, but the Ringmaster makes them invisible. Vision intercepts them anyway and solidifies to make them crash. Ringmaster uses a python illusion against the Avengers, but Scarlet Witch uses her powers to turn it against him. Hawkeye and the Swordsman run away while the Ringmaster treathens the Avengers with a vial of Mythrax if they don't let him go, but Redwing makes him drop it and he finds out that the vial is empty. The Swordsman double-crossed him!

Hawkeye and the Swordsman reach the sewers, where Swordsman reveals he has an armed Mythrax bomb, and instead of selling the Mythrax as Ringmaster wanted, he intends to use it on New York under orders of something bigger. Hawkeye tries to stop Swordsman, who escapes. Though Hawkeye doesn't manage to disarm the bomb, Ant-Man enters its internal mechanisms and deactivates it.

Hawkeye returns to the Avengers and argues to Falcon that he would have defeated him if they were fighting for real, then they argue more. The other Avengers say Ringmaster's technology would be useful to make them disappear right now.

Meanwhile, Swordsman reports his failure to Zodiac, and Taurus orders to tear him into twelve pieces, each representing one sign of the zodiac.
