Ultron sets its malicious mechanical sights on destroying Ant-Man once and for all and builds the powerful Vision to do it. Vision and Ultron's forces attack the city and the president to lure the hero into a trap. Meanwhile. Ant-Man doubts his ability to command Earth's mightiest heroes, the Avengers! (Series Premiere)

Story[]

It's a dark and rainy night. Lightning streaks across the sky. The city is quiet as the storm rages overhead.

Mary Shelley inspired

Just outside the city, waves crash up upon the short near a building. A "NO TRESPASSING" sign lays on the shore.

The water crashes up on the pipes coming out of the ground. Lightning strikes nearby.

Inside, an enormous mechanical laboratory is set up. A deep voice calls out for new life for a new world. On a table, a robot is being built where cables reach up above.

Meeting the enemy

Another robot steps forward saying that the "pathetic" world of humans does not deserve its vision. It claims that the world does not deserve it, Ultron.

On the table, the robot is just a skeleton being assembled.

Ultron raises its arm and fires an energy blast at a computer console.

This causes a beam to shoot down into the robot. The mechanical arms become charged with energy. A device fires downwards. The readouts on a console max out. Electricity fires out.

Power engulfs the table and overhead devices. The robot arches up. The power dies down and the robot settles to the table once more.

It's alive!

Suddenly, the robot's finger moves. Ultron calls for the finishing touches. The eyes suddenly glow with power.

The robot sits up as its eyes turn yellow. The table tilts forward and the robot slides up standing.

Thinking highly of his "son"

Arms come down and grab onto the robot lifting it up. They carry the robot over towards the approaching Ultron and set it down. Ultron calls it perfect, like itself.

It raises its arm and fires another beam at another console. The console powers on and a large tube extends over the robot.

Steam pours out from the bottom as Ultron watches. The tube rises revealing a machine of green and yellow with a red face

Ultron's vision for world domination

Ultron calls it a living machine and virtually immortal. The robot's eyes pulsate as Ultron calls it its greatest creation. It calls the robot Vision.

It approaches Vision saying he will help it purge the world of humanity calling them weak and corrupt beings with illogical emotions.

Monitors power on all around showing a blonde man. Ultron claims this one man is the only who understands them. It claims only he can stop them, its hand begins spinning on its arm.

Such needless destruction

It fires the hand like a rocket as it calls the man Henry Pym. The fist crashes into each screen destroying them. Ultron calls Henry Ant-Man, the leader of the Avengers.

The fist returns to Ultron's arm. It claims he will be the first to perish then punches the last screen.

Later, a large mansion sits surrounded by the city. A reporter explains that Central Park is bracing for a crowd of well-wishers that day.

Inside, Henry stands in a large room watching his television set. Three paintings of figures rise above him.

The reporter claims that the President of the United States of America will present a special commendation to the Manhattan-based crime-fighting team, the Avengers.

An image of Henry appears next to the man. The reporter explains the team is led by Ant-Man and they are loved and respected around the world for working against international terrorism and crimes of mass destruction.

A day unlike any other

Henry watches intently while holding a helmet. A woman approaches him from behind. She grabs him and asks her dearest if he is enjoying the attention.

Henry turns off the television with his remote. He kisses her on the cheek and says he is not. He explains that he always thought the Avengers should avoid the spotlight, but it's hard to say no to the president.

She calls him Hank saying it's harder to say no to her. She tells them they are going. Calling her Jan, he agrees saying she and the others deserve today.

Having his doubts

He grabs her saying he is unsure if he should be the one leading them. She asks what he means. He looks up at the paintings saying he is not like Captain America holding up the American flag, Thor wielding Mjolnir and firing lightning, or Iron Man flying through the city in his armor.

He needs to make his own legacy

Jan points out that none of them are Doctor Henry Pym, world's greatest biochemist. She hugs him saying they helped form the Avengers and tells him not to forget it as she pulls him away.

As they walk down the hall, she claims he is as qualified to lead them as anyone.

Elsewhere, something pounds a wall from the other side. Soon, a man bursts through carrying a club. He tells someone to "hex" his attack.

She looks pretty calm considering the size difference

He runs forward towards a woman who floats to the ground. She tells the Winds of Destiny to change. She reaches forward and fire blasts from her hands.

The man is blasted back into a wall dropping the club. The attack stops and he crumbles to the ground.

Making up

Calling the man Simon, she reminds him she warned him. She walks forward explaining that when she changes the probabilities affecting something the world goes crazy. She leaves over and lifts his face.

She helps the big man up saying she is never sure what will happen. He stands on his on explaining that's why he has to help her practice her control even if it kills him, rubbing his head.

She leans in saying Simon is so nice and that he looks after her like no one else. She wonders what she would do without him.

Elsewhere, a tiger-like woman leaps down. An archer raises his bow and readies an arrow.

The agile fighter

The woman runs along a wall while arrows embed themselves in it in an attempt to it her. She leaps up roaring. She flips around as more arrows miss. She runs up the wall dodging more.

Numerous arrows fly at her at once. She pushes off the wall as more hit nearby.

She lands telling the man, Hawkeye, that she wanted a real challenge. Calling her Tigra, he asks why she didn't say something.

Hawkeye readies five arrows and fires them at once. Tigra leaps into the air and catches them.

Both good at what they do

He approaches her and she offers his arrow back. He asks if she is ready to meet the president. She hopes that the president is ready to meet them.

Suddenly, Hank comes on the sound system telling the Avengers to assemble. Hawkeye and Tigra race off.

The team assembled

The Avengers gather behind Hank as he sits at a computer. He orders the computer to identify the source of the disturbance.

A monitor comes on and the static clears to show a large helicopter and two smaller ones being attacked by smaller fighters. Simon identifies it as the president's chopper. The helicopters dodges the oncoming fire.

Assassination attempt

One of the support helicopter pilots wonders where those weapons came from. The other replies that this is New York but still. The monitors show the helicopter being fired on from the ground. It pans down showing a vehicle firing up as another pulls up next to it.

The supporting attack helicopter is fired upon by the attackers and destroyed.

Hank tells the Avengers that they are going to meet the president sooner than they thought. He tells them to assemble.

Assembling the Avengers' armor

Hank touches his belt causing a flash of light. Shoulder pads drop down on him. Armor slides over his leg. Armor extends out of the belt over his abdomen and more appears on his chest. His arms become covered. A helmet comes together over his face.

Coming together

A helmet forms over Jan's face and flashes. Armor extends over her arm. A compartment opens revealing a small mechanical arm. She stands now fully clad in armor.

Each Avenger assembled

Armor forms over Hawkeye's shoulders and arms, each flashing once completed. A larger belt forms over his existing one. He spins around and pulls two devices off his back attaching them together to form a bow.

On top of the mansion, a door opens up. An aircraft powers up and lifts off. Inside, Ant-Man tells the craft to head to Central Park North and go subsonic. The computer acknowledges and flies off.

Elsewhere, Ultron asks if the Avengers have taken the bait. It watches a monitor showing the strategic targets, Ant-Man and the President, on the HUD. Behind that, a helicopter is blown out of the sky. A pilot in a parachute glides down.

The plan is coming together

An image of Ultron glides down the HUD. A voice tells his creator that the Avengers are not there yet. Ultron orders him to press hard.

No match for the machine forces

The president's helicopter flies out of Central Park. It has one remaining protecting helicopter left and several pursuers. More attacking drones follow and destroy the last protector.

As the helicopter crashes, the pilot ejects out.

An android with a mission

In the park, Vision hovers underneath a tree watching the crash. He says that they will not allow the target vehicle to escape. He turns and hovers away.

Closing in

The president's helicopter flies away as more drones pursue and fire.

Inside, a young girl screams and the president pulls her close. A Secret Service agent looks out readying his pistol. He sees something and aims it.

Outside, a drone fires. It fires through the window hitting the agent in the arm.

Down on the streets, a car comes to a stop at an intersection.

Inside an apartment, a door opens and a man walks in. He looks around and is shocked when the battle passes by his windows. He drops his bags of groceries and runs to the windows.

Not just any innocent bystander

He looks out and sees the helicopter and drones making another pass. One fires a wild blast that hits the building near his window. More blasts hit near his building and he backs away.

He leaps away from the window as another blast comes filling the room with smoke.

The smoke clears and he walks to the gaping hole. He says that someone picked the wrong neighborhood to shoot up and calls to Redwing.

Trusty sidekick

A falcon flies out of the sky screaming and lands on his arm.

Vision watches the helicopter fly as more shots come from the ground. He orders Ultron's forces to bring them down.

The helicopter flies above Central Park. The girl looks out the window terrified. The drones keep close pace as the ground forces fire.

Few defenses left

The president looks out and sees the drones right outside the window. He backs away looking terrified.

Suddenly, two drones are destroyed as the Avengers' aircraft flies in.

Vision notes that the primary target has arrived. He says to isolate and destroy him.

In the cockpit, Jan tells Ant-Man that the initial attack was neutralized. He tells Hawkeye, Wonder Man, Tigra, and Scarlet Witch to drop and attack. Hawkeye tells him to open the bottom.

One third of Force Works enter the battle

The bottom hatch opens as the plane flies by. Hawkeye flies out with Scarlet Witch on a flying motorcycle.

Tigra follows on her own and roars. Wonder Man drops down last and falls with Tigra.

She doesn't have claws for nothing

Tigra lands on a drone roaring. She flies it around and begins tearing pieces off of it.

On the ground, a missile launcher moves up and fires. One shot grazes Tigra as she stands and is knocked off.

She crashes through the trees to the ground below. She lands and grabs her foot in pain. She looks up briefly then passes out.

Meanwhile, Hawkeye and Scarlet Witch fly away from some drones. He calls them peashooters who can do better and offers to show them.

Hawkeye flies through the trees and Scarlet Witch jumps off. She flips around as she lands.

She put a target on her back

Three drones approach Tigra. She sits up and screams when she sees them.

Suddenly, the man in the apartment wearing a bird suit flies down. He tackles one of the drones and flies them into the other two destroying them. He destroys the last by throwing it into a tree.

Two heroes meet

He flies back around to Tigra who thanks him. He smiles and flies off.

Meanwhile, Vision hovers looking on. He fires beams from his eyes that hit the president's helicopter.

The helicopter flies out of control and descends trailing smoke. It slams into the ground and skids to a halt.

Running out of options

The Secret Service agents open the hatch and begin firing their pistols telling the president to follow. He holds the girl as they run out and she screams. The agents fire as they are fired upon.

The Avengers' jet flies down in close.

The field commander

Vision orders the missile launcher to bring them down. It begins firing rapidly.

Explosions go off all around the jet. Ant-Man pilots the jet around the blasts. He orders Hawkeye to protect the president.

Hawkeye flies down and lands. He leaps off and runs towards the president.

Last line of defense

The agents fire at the drones, but the robots get in close knocking the agents down. Hawkeye runs up telling the president to get down. He and the girl run off while Hawkeye readies his bow.

Two drones fly towards him. He aims and fires two arrows. They soar through the air and cause the drones to explode.

Diligent father

The president shields the girl from the falling debris as it rains around them.

One of the ground vehicles aims and fires. Hawkeye leaps up dodging the blast. He aims another arrow and fires. This one breaks off into small rockets that shoot forward.

Saving the president

The rockets hit the missile launcher causing it to explode. Hawkeye walks up to the flaming heap.

The Avengers jet lands in the park. Vision hovers down noting his primary target is Ant-Man. Ant-Man sits in the pilot's seat.

Confronting the target

The jet hovers down to the ground and Vision mirrors it. Ant-Man and Wasp are shocked to see their new opponent.

Vision's eyes glow and he fires them. The blast hits the nose of the jet and the two Avengers shield themselves.

Day's not over yet

With the president and girl behind a tree, Hawkeye fires an arrow at Vision. It hits and explodes. Vision turns and focuses his eye beams on Hawkeye.

The archer runs noting that his arrow didn't make a dent. The tree behind him explodes. He runs and leaps to dodge more attacks. However, he is hit in the back and goes down screaming.

Can't hit what you can't touch

Wonder Man flies in saying he's got Hawkeye covered. He flies down but Vision flashes becoming partially invisible. Wonder Man flies forward and throws a punch that goes right through him.

He keeps going and slams into a tree. He slumps to the ground wondering where his target went.

One of the power players

Meanwhile, Scarlet Witch runs along pursued by more drones. She tells the Winds of Destiny to change and fires a blast causing a drone to explode. More fly through the smoke.

The president and the girl run through a field when a blast knocks them down. They look up to see armed vehicles before them. A news van suddenly opens up revealing heavy arms. A truck does the same.

No way out

The two look up in horror. Their clothes have started falling apart. A drone approaches from above. They hug each other as it closes in.

Hawkeye says that it won't and readies an arrow. Just then, the bird man flies down and kicks the robot destroying it. Hawkeye wonders what that is.

Swooping in to save the day

The bird man flies down and picks up the president and girl. They fly away just as blast hits their location.

Hawkeye readies his bow again saying it's time for a tune up. He fires the arrow destroying the truck. That causes the news van to explode which then blows up the third transforming vehicle.

The bird man lands and sets the others down. He addresses the president.

Hawkeye wonders who the "bird guy" is. In the distance, sirens are heard.

Getting out while he can

Vision watches as cop cars drive by. He says that the mission parameters have changed. He scans the cars saying that destruction of Ant-Man is impossible at this time.

Ultron appears in his HUD ordering him to abort and return to base. Vision turns and hovers away.

The police drive up to Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man, and Wasp standing outside their jet. Tigra runs up and Wonder Man flies down. Ant-Man wonders where Hawkeye is.

The day is saved

The archer approaches carrying a drone. He drops it telling the "lab rat" that he has something to play with. Ant-Man becomes angry saying he ordered him to protect the president.

Hawkeye retorts that he did and then took on "bright eyes" to save the jet. They watch as the girl follows the president being taken away by paramedics in an ambulance. Ant-Man responds that leaving his post got the president hurt and that he and his daughter could have been killed.

Some injuries

Ant-Man walks away and Hawkeye slumps down. He apologizes and Wonder Man reassures him.

Later at the mansion, Tigra cries out that something isn't fair.

In their war room, a man explains to the team that the government gives the Avengers a free hand and expects them to produce results. He says that if they cannot do that then they will have to step in.

Hank won't take being insulted sitting down

He becomes angry saying that they cannot have loose cannons endangering the people or president. Hank stands up addressing Mr. Sikorski explaining the Avengers have saved more lives than he can count.

Hawkeye pipes up saying that the president and his daughter would be squirrel food if it was not for them. Sikorski retorts that the president doesn't see it that way, out of his one good eye.

He activates the console on the table and the monitor powers on. It shows a copy of The Daily Bugle showing the bird man saving the president and his daughter.

The monitor changes to Hawkeye. He explains that what he sees is a team of "hotshots" having a firefight in Central Park. The monitor shows Hawkeye firing his arrows and destroying the vehicles.

Seeing a potential recruit in action

The monitors switch to the bird man kicking the drone and scooping up the president and daughter. Sikorski points out that it was this "Falcon" who saved the president.

Hawkeye replies that the man got lucky. He claims that "bird boy" is strictly local and Sikorski knows it. He points out that the Avengers go anywhere at anytime handling anything.

Sikorski asks like they did today. He turns them down.

Tigra wonders who he is talking to them like that. She reminds him, in case he forgot, that they are the Avengers. Jan speaks up asking what exactly the president wants.

Giving them orders

Sikorski tells them he wants two things. The president doesn't want to see Hawkeye and he wants them to find Falcon and make him part of the team.

Wonder Man explains they choose their own members. He tells them that's okay, but he's been authorized to use the full force of the government to make their lives miserable. He holds up a plaque and, offering his congratulations, throws it at them.

He turns and walks out.

Once he's gone Tigra calls calls him a jerk. Hank says that even though he disagrees with it, Hawkeye will have to lay low. Tigra cries out that it isn't fair. Scarlet Witch agrees saying he can't do that.

Taking the blame

Hawkeye stands asking if he's the fall guy. Hank tells him to calm down. Hawkeye replies that if he's not good enough to be seen with the Avengers then maybe he shouldn't be an Avenger.

He turns and storms out. Hank calls out to him. Tigra also calls out. Wonder Man offers to talk to him.

In the hall, Wonder Man catches up to Hawkeye, calling him Clint. He asks him not to do this saying they've been through too much. Hawkeye retorts that they think he should crawl away and hide.

Hawkeye isn't the friendly type anyways

Wonder Man reasons that Hank had to make a call. Calling him Simon, Hawkeye says that Wonder Man is the only real friend he's had.

He puts out his hands and Wonder Man punches them. Hawkeye says he should understand why he has to go.

Hawkeye turns and leaves. Wonder Man watches him go.

Later, sirens blare past the mansion.

Inside, the others are talking in the halls. Scarlet Witch walks away saying that if Sikorsky doesn't object she will go see what Clint said to Simon.

Here comes the butler

As she goes, a man carrying a box of drone parts walks by. He tells Dr. Pym that the parts were leaking on the living room carpet. Hank tells the man, Jarvis, to put them in the lab with the others.

He agrees and carries the box away.

When he's gone, Jan asks about the "feathered fellow" wanted by Sikorsky. Hank says they must find him. Tigra offers to go saying that he saved her life and she likes that in a man.

Hank thanks her, calling her Greer, as it will give him the time to analyze what attacked them.

Learning about the enemy

Later, the drones' scans are displayed on a monitor. The covers flash showing the insides.

Jan looks up at the readouts then hears a crashing noise nearby. She turns and sees Hank at a table with one of the drones. He orders the computer to engage the containment field.

Putting himself in harms way to find the truth

He presses a button and a beam of light comes down from the ceiling illuminating Hank and the table. Jan works on her console.

A device comes down and Hank grabs his Ant-Man helmet putting it on. He pulls a tool out of the device and looks to see what they're up against.

He uses the device, a laser, to cut apart the turbine and wing on the drone while scanning it with his helmet. He cuts a small rectangle.

What can go wrong will go wrong

He hears an alarm going off and calls out to Jan. He looks up saying that there's a problem.

On her monitor, Jan looks at the scans and sees something. Ant-Man doesn't understand since they looked for self-destruct traps. She tells him to get out now.

He claims he can handle this and pulls out another tool. He orders her to seal the blast doors on the lab. He turns on the new tool and takes it to the drone.

Fighting the ticking clock

She calls out to him begging. He orders her to do it and go. He reaches inside the drone and fires the laser. He uses it on the circuitry.

Meanwhile, Ultron's lab lies quiet. Seen through a water filled tube, Ultron's severed head is lowered on an arm. It says that Vision's first day went well.

Vision looks out noting that Ant-Man still lives. Ultron explains that its plans did not anticipate Falcon, but future ones will.

Admiring his opponents

Vision claims that the Avengers are a formidable team. Ultron's head moves away explaining that together they are strong. It looks at a map of the city that moves in closer to the mansion and inside. A drone appears on the monitor.

Ultron says that when separated and Vision finishes that they are vulnerable. Ultron turns towards him saying he prefers the word destroyed.

Its plan is working

Ultron's head moves back as it says Ant-Man will be occupied with the damaged drone as it knew he'd be. The head lowers onto a new body.

The head attaches to the body and it says that through the drone's sensors it was able to find certain weaknesses in the mansion's defenses.

New body, new action figure

Ultron is lifted up and new pieces lower down around the neck. Arms attach to it. Ultron examines the new arms as new legs are put into place.

Vision watches from his tank.

Beginning the next stage

Ultron drops down to the floor with a mighty thud. It explains that it will draw the other Avengers out so that Vision will have Hank all to himself and Phase Two will begin.

Out in the streets, city buses drive by. They pass by a line of people on the sidewalk. The man who is Falcon watches them pass. He notes how odd it is that there are all those buses with no riders. A young boy looks up at him.

Suddenly, the buses stop and they open the top revealing cannons. The cannons aim and fire.

Just trying to have a relaxing night out

Near the crowd, a streetlamp explodes. The people are knocked back. Falcon slams into a wall. He stands and sees people running for their lives.

He calls out to someone named Andrew. He runs and sees the boy, Andrew, and asks if he is alright. He crouches down and Andrew says he thinks so.

Protecting his family

When fire erupts, Falcon shields the boy. He turns and realizes it is the buses. He tells the boy to hang on.

In the lab, Ant-Man continues working on the drone. He tells Jan to shut off the alarm saying he can handle this himself.

Falling into the trap

She explains that the computer discovered more of the drones attacking Madison Square Garden. On the monitors, it shows the buses opening up releasing more drones.

He orders her to take the team and go. She objects but he says that if he doesn't disarm their drone it could take out the mansion. She looks shocked as he once more orders her to leave and then begs.

Putting innocents in harms way

Meanwhile, the buses continue firing into the air. They damage the buildings and Garden. People run away from the vehicles.

Falcon and Andrew enter a glass door. Falcon tells Andrew to stay there. Andrew objects to his uncle's orders but Falcon runs out telling him to do it.

A hero in and out of costume

Falcon runs down the sidewalk and grabs a metal bar. He tosses it and it his the lead bus causing an explosion. He is knocked back by the blast and slumps to the ground.

Andrew peaks around the corner and is shocked to see his uncle down. He cries out and runs to his Uncle Sam. He helps the groaning Sam up saying he's okay, he has to be.

Caught in the crossfire

Just then, an explosion knocks Andrew back. Sam looks up and cries out to his nephew. He runs to Andrew who is unconscious. He scoops the boy up in his arms. Saying he told him to stay back.

Guns appear out of one bus and take aim. They fire at the Garden and move to aim at Sam and Andrew. Sam looks horrified.

Three buses charge and prepare to fire. Just then, a blast comes down from above an they all explode. Sam looks up and sees the Avengers' jet hovering above the city firing down. Wonder Man flies down.

Here she comes to save the day

In the cockpit, Jan notes that this is just like that morning, except the president is not there. She wonders what their target is.

As he flies down, Wonder Man smacks aside two drones wondering where the man with the shiny eyes is.

Scarlet Witch hovers down on Hawkeye's motorcycle and Tigra leaps off. She leaps off a lamppost and onto a drone. She tears it apart and leaps onto another. She does this twice more.

The buses then target the jet above. The jet fires down destroying more buses.

Strange turn of events

A drone flies up to Wonder Man and he prepares to hit it. Suddenly, all the drones in the area power down.

Jan watches on the monitors noting that they stopped attacking.

On the ground, Wonder Man stands with Scarlet Witch as drones fall all around them. He notes that someone went to a lot of trouble to get their attention.

Something is amiss

Tigra leaps up saying that it was almost too easy. Scarlet Witch claims something doesn't feel right. She notes that they were all drawn there then the fight stopped, and it doesn't make sense.

Wonder Man notes that they did not all come, Ant-Man stayed behind. He claims they left him alone at the mansion. The three look up as the jet's computer announces that there was a security breach at the mansion on level three.

Jan explains that it's the mansion's alarm and it is under attack. Wonder Man flies up to the jet.

Later, the mansion seems quiet in the night from the outside.

Inside, Ant-Man struggles to hit three drones in the destroyed halls. He swings a club hitting one and tosses the club aside.

He's got a few tricks up his sleeve

He becomes surrounded by light then grows in size. He punches two more as they fire on him.

Suddenly, Vision phases through the wall and hovers towards him.

Wonder Man flies around a corner seeing "bright eyes" again. Vision's eyes glow as he realizes Vision is after him. Ant-Man continues punching the robots.

Making the ultimate sacrifice

He cries out for Ant-Man to look out and flies up. Ant-Man wonders where to look out. Wonder Man flies up just as Vision fires.

Wonder Man cries out in pain as he takes the full force of Vision's attack. Ant-Man turns to see.

Vision getting the upper hand

Vision continues pulsating his attack. Eventually Wonder Man falls down. With one Avenger down, he scans one of the nearby drones.

Scarlet Witch runs up and calls out to Simon. She cries out when she sees him on the ground. The drone activates its auto self-destruct then begins counting down as it sparks.

The drone blows up next to Wonder Man.

  • When Hank turns off the television, the screen fades and the banner becomes visible through the reporter.
  • During the training session, Hawkeye's arrows produce no shadows.
  • Ultron's computer during the attack on the president spells it Ant Man without the hyphen.
  • Wasp armors up but never uses it and later she wears no armor.
  • The door on the roof of the mansion has no where to go when it opens.
  • Given how easily he dominated Hawkeye and Wonder Man, the arrival of the police is hardly enough to warrant Vision retreating.
  • The firefight happened before the Avengers left the mansion so it makes little sense to be mad that they were involved.
  • Tigra leaps out of the Quinjet before Wonder Man yet in the air she catches up to him.
Quite some strength to throw all those things at once
  • Both in Central Park and at Madison Square Garden, either Falcon/Sam demonstrates superhuman strength, which he supposedly doesn't have, or the drones are easily destroyed.
  • When Vision decides to leave Central Park, the animation is the same as when he went after the president.
  • Sikorski shows footage that is clearly reused animation and could not have been shot during the fight by anyone.
Where did Hawkeye's mask go?
  • When Sikorski storms out, Hawkeye is not wearing anything on his head.
  • Hank cuts a rectangle out of the drone but it makes no sense to cut into the turbine.
  • When the head of Ultron, on the mechanical arm, moves away from Vision in the water tank his spine disappears.
  • When Ultron is being assembled, his codpiece appears out of nowhere between frames.
  • The most suspicious part of the Ultron drones outside Madison Square Gardens is that there are doors on the wrong side. No bus has doors on the left side in the United States.
  • When Sam hides Andrew in the hall, the people running outside disappear for several frames.
  • After the drones power down, the Avengers logo on Janet's sleeve is misshapen.

Background[]

When the episode came back from Asia it had several issues. The people at Fox Kids had to fix it before airing. The second episode came back better.[1]

Vision is shown to be much more mechanical than in the comics, where he is synthetic but closer to being human.

The tie-in comic's first issue explains the armor worn by the team. In a battle with Dragon Man, Ant-Man was injured and uses the armor to reduce the pain. The others wear armor as solidarity.

Reception[]

Uninteresting villain given the inspiration

In his review of both parts, "Stu" of Marvel Animation Age noted that by the time the series debuted the major characters of Marvel Comics had already appeared on X-Men, Spider-Man, and The Incredible Hulk while Fantastic Four and Iron Man fared worse though got better towards the end. He pointed out how Silver Surfer and Spider-Man Unlimited were not nearly as successful as the others, while Captain America and Daredevil were never made, essentially leaving the Avengers as the only property left. He stated that, at the time, the Avengers had been popular but not nearly as much as the X-Men or Fantastic Four. He thought that the Avengers could be entertaining in animation, but The Avengers: United They Stand ended up being possibly the worst cartoon he could recall. He claimed he never heard anything good about the show. While it was not as bad as he heard, it was still bad. He wondered about the series skipping the big characters as he didn't know half of the characters that did appear while the characters he did know weren't recognizable. He questioned using Ant-Man as the leader. He felt that outside of Falcon none of the characters were given any reason to be Avengers or why this version came together to begin with nor why the popular characters are no longer around. He didn't think any of the team was developed. He claimed Hawkeye was a poor man's Wolverine. He thought the designs were inspired by Bruce Timm but lacked his appeal. He felt the costumes were designed to sell action figures and laughed at the armoring up sequence. He said Ultron was stupid as it was given no explanation to wanting to kill Ant-Man, which is a shame given the the character's prominence in the comics. He pointed out Ultron's design as particularly pandering to the toy market. "As for the show's good points... erm. Hmmm. Well, maybe in the next episode?"

The episode has a 7.3 on TV.com and 6.1 on the Internet Movie Database.
