Irene was friends with Mystique when the other mutant convinced her to become foster mother to Rogue. She foresaw that Rogue would manifest her mutant powers shortly before they did. Rogue was taken away from her so she could join the Brotherhood of Mutants under command of Mystique and later the X-Men.

She is able to see the future. She saw Rogue's powers manifest shortly before they did.
