The Defenders are a team of superheroes. Its members are unknown though it is implied that Hulk is a member.
Spider-Man had heard of the team. When chasing the Lizard through the sewers beneath New York City he commented that the team, in addition to the Avengers and Fantastic Four, would not go down there. But he quickly retracted saying Hulk might.
Background[]
The Defenders was a brief reference inserted into "Night of the Lizard". They were never seen nor heard about outside the reference on Spider-Man.

The team has had several different rosters. Members have included Doctor Strange, Hulk, Namor, Silver Surfer, Hawkeye, Professor X, Daredevil, Thing, Ant-Man (as Yellowjacket), Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, Falcon, Havok, Hercules, Polaris, Prowler, Stingray, Moondragon, Wasp, Black Panther, Ghost Rider, Beast, Wonder Man, Mister Fantastic, Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Angel, Iceman, Wolverine, Darkhawk, Spider-Woman, War Machine, Northstar, Drax, She-Hulk, and Colossus.
A group of villains also called themselves the Defenders. This group included Beetle, Blob, Boomerang, Electro, Libra, Sagittarius, Shocker, Toad, Whirlwind, Thanos, Geatar, Rhino, Super-Skrull, Titanium Man, and Krang.
