Crime and Punishment is a Russian novel by Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The story follows the mental anguish and moral dilemmas of a man planning to murder another for his money.
Hank McCoy had a copy of the book while in prison. After being denied bail, he held his copy noting that he would have time to brush up on his Dostoyevsky.
Background[]
In the novel, the character argues that murder is permissible if it serves a higher purpose. This can be seen as a parallel to the X-Men attacking the Mutant Control Agency, a crime that served to protect all mutants.
