Collateral damage is the term for when something incidental to the intended target is damaged during an attack or battle. When used in conjunction with superhuman and military operations, it can refer to the incidental destruction of civilian property and non-combatant casualties.

The term often refers to death and destruction, though it could also mean injury.

Many superpowered people become superheroes in order to prevent collateral damage. Often their histories involve innocents close to them being hurt and they wish to prevent further damage.

The town and population of Elkford Canada became collateral damage when Team X attacked Bruce Banner and he turned into the Hulk.
