The first episode he appeared in, "What If... T'Challa Became a Star-Lord?", is dedicated to his memory.

What If...? director Bryan Andrews revealed that Chadwick Boseman's Star-Lord was planned to have his own spin-off show before the actor's death. In a interview Andrews said "I don't know if he knew this, but there was planning to have Star-Lord T'Challa spin off into his own show with that universe and crew," he continued. "We were all very excited. We know he would have loved that, too. And then, he passed, and so all that's in limbo. So, who knows? Maybe one day."[2]

In September 2022, Chadwick Boseman posthumously won an Emmy Award for his role as T'Challa/Star-Lord in the episode "What If... T'Challa Became a Star-Lord?" of What If...?.[3]
