Background
There's a glaring inconsistency in X-Men regarding Cannonball. He appears on television footage in "Night Of The Sentinels, Part One" along with Magneto and Sabretooth. But in "Hidden Agendas", much later in the series, he is just learning his powers and being discovered. The only in-universe explanation is that someone who looks similar to Sam has the same powers as he would.
