James Buchanan Barnes, also known as Bucky, was the sidekick of Captain America during World War II.
Biography[]
Bucky was the teenage "mascot" of the military base Steve Rogers was posted at.
One night Buck walked into Steve Rogers' tent when he was changing into his Captain America costume and learned his secret identity. Captain America then made Bucky his partner. Bucky would often suit up to join Captain America on his escapades.
When Steve was sent on a mission, Bucky was left at Camp Lehigh and it was attacked by saboteurs. Bucky tried to stop them but was captured instead. Captain America eventually learned of Bucky's capture and rescued him.
Towards the end of World War II, Bucky and Captain America fought Baron Zemo. Zemo had launched a missile and Captain America and Bucky jumped onto it. Captain America fell into the ocean where he ended up in suspended animation. However, Bucky sacrificed himself to stop the missile.
Rick Jones once dressed up as him in an effort to become Captain America's new sidekick.
