The Arctic is a region of the northernmost section of Earth. It consists of parts of the United States of America, Northern Canada, Norway, Russia, and other parts of Europe and Asia. It is primarily covered in snow and ice all year round and experiences extremely cold conditions. It is in this region that the Aurora Borealis, also known as Northern Lights, occur.
The similar region on the other side of the globe is called the Antarctic.
