The history of the team is unknown.

At one point, the group stole technology from Stark Industries. At another, they created MODOC.

The Scientist Supreme decided to do business with Doctor Doom of Latveria. A.I.M. sent a group of soldiers to meet with Lucia von Bardas and some Doombots. However, the meeting was interrupted by Iron Man. Iron Man defeated the A.I.M. soldiers and ordered Lucia and the Doombots home. He took the soldiers to the Vault.

They experimented with turning people into pure energy. However, no one survived their experiments.

When Simon Williams wanted revenge on Tony Stark, he turned to his brother Eric. Eric took him to A.I.M. where MODOC put him in the energy experiment. Thor and Wasp intervened and their powers managed to make the experiment successful. Simon, now Wonder Man, attacked the Avengers but was defeated.

HYDRA approached A.I.M. about making a powerful device. They paid A.I.M. for all their needs. Initially, MODOC planned to take the money and only half-heartedly research their idea. But when they realized it could work, MODOC repaid the money claiming it to be a complete failure. They than began developing the Cosmic Cube, a device that could alter reality at the will of its wielder.

Baron Strucker realized A.I.M. was lying so the two groups began fighting. A.I.M. quickly tried to finish the Cube while HYDRA lay siege to their forces. Under orders of the new director Maria Hill, S.H.I.E.L.D. locked down New York City and even threatened to arrest the Avengers. However, once finished it appeared not to work. Strucker and Captain America fought over it but it did not seem to do anything. Unbeknownst to them, the Cube responded to Captain America's thoughts to bring Bucky back to life.

Eventually, the group obtained the Technovore. However, it attacked A.I.M. before becoming subdued. The Scientist Supreme ordered his soldiers to use it against Stark Industries. Using a remote control, A.I.M. shut down all power to Stark Industries and took over. A.I.M. took hostages while Technovore hunted down Tony. A.I.M. then began stealing Stark's data and armors. Captain America and Black Panther began taking down the agents. Tony tricked Technovore into attacking A.I.M. James Rhodes got into the War Machine Armor and fought A.I.M. Iron Man, War Machine, Captain America, Black Panther, and Maria Hill defeated A.I.M. and arrested the Scientist Supreme.
