Ego Defeats Thor

"To Battle the Living Planet" is the nineteenth episode of Fantastic Four. It originally aired on November 4, 1995. The episode was directed by Ernesto Lopez and written by Steve Granat, Cydne Clark, and Jay Strnad. It is the first of three appearances of John Rhys-Davies as Thor, followed by "When Calls Galactus" and The Incredible Hulk's "Mortal Bounds". The episode features a total of sixteen different superheroes.

The Fantastic Four are celebrating their new home in the Four Freedoms Plaza when natural disasters begin to occur all across the globe including an earthquake in New York City. They go out to help protect citizens and are joined by the Avengers including Iron Man, Captain America, She-Hulk, Hercules, Wasp, and Vision. They suddenly see the sky on fire. Mister Fantastic realizes it is caused by something entering Earth's atmosphere, which turns out to be Mjolnir.

Mjolnir enters Reed's lab and he deduces it is a summons by Thor. They follow the hammer into space and find Thor knocked out. They rescue the Asgardian while Thing becomes jealous. The four then find what defeated Thor, Ego the living planet. They crash on his surface and are overwhelmed by the planet's power. Thor wakes and saves them. Thor explains how he sensed Ego and tried to stop him but was defeated. They try to reason with the villain but he will not listen. They then decide to destroy the rocket that propels Ego but find it indestructible.

The five realize that the rocket belongs to Galactus, and that the planet eater may be the only one who can stop Ego. Mister Fantastic and Thor travel find Galactus and his new Herald Terrax. Galactus explains that Ego's power rivaled his own so he built the rockets to send the planet away. Galactus agrees to help on the condition that their bargain be revoked so he could possibly consume Earth once more. Thing, Invisible Woman, and Human Torch enter Ego's core to destroy him from the inside. Galactus confronts Ego while Thor uses Mjolnir to greatly increase the planet eater's power. Ego is eventually destroyed but Thing is trapped inside. Thor rescues him and the two make peace. Galactus leaves promising that he will eventually return to Earth.
